- Gather Dirty Water from ponds, streams, and rivers
- Craft Boiled Water using Dirty Water and Logs at a Camp or Stove
- Build a Rainwater Collection System to gather water passively
Along with hunger and sanity, keeping your meta-human topped up with fresh drinking water is crucial to staying alive in the supernatural world of Once Human. Other than, you know, fending off waves of zombies and monstrosities.
Though the tutorial briefly covers the process, getting water fit for consumption involves a few steps. We’ll walk you through how to get drinking water and even craft a Rainwater Collection System. For more early game nuggets, check out our top tips and tricks and dedicated beginner’s guide.
How to get water
To start, you’ll first need to find a patch of water. Any pond or river will do. Approach the water and you’ll see an on-screen prompt to Collect Dirty Water. Tap G to start gathering the liquid into your inventory. Once you’ve stockpiled a decent amount, you’ll need to either set up a Camp on flat ground nearby or alternatively, if you have one, head to a Stove in your Territory base.
At the Camp, tap F to Craft with Bare Hands, select Boiled Water from the options in the menu that pops up, select how many you want to make, and tap F to craft. Each unit of Boiled Water requires x3 Dirty Water and x3 Log, and takes 2 seconds to process. Otherwise, if you’re using a Stove, tap F to bring up the cooking menu. Select Boiled Water from the list, adjust the slider, and tap F to craft the water.
How to get rainwater
You can also streamline the whole process by passively collecting rainwater, which you can then transform into Boiled Water to stay hydrated. First, you’ll need to unlock the Rainwater Collection System memetic under the Logistics tab in the Memetics Cradle menu. The formula will cost you two Meme Point ciphers.
Next, head to your base and bring up the build menu, go to the Facilities tab, then under Gathering & Production click on the Rainwater Collection System and build it. The material requirements are x30 Log, x15 Shabby Fabric, and x5 Rubber. Make sure it’s positioned outside. After that, it’s a bit of a waiting game as it’ll take time for the device to collect rainwater. Once it has, interact with the system to gather the Dirty Water then boil it into clean water using the methods detailed above.
You can also increase how much water you can store by unlocking the Water Storage memetic (under the Logistics tab) for 3 ciphers and 200 Energy Link. Once it’s built (x50 Log, x5 Adhesive, and x15 Metal Scraps), connect it to the Rainwater Collection System using a pipe. Bring up the build menu, approach the Water Storage and you’ll see the option to Connect Pipe. Tap V then walk over to the collector and tap V once more to connect the two.
