Are you struggling on defense and need to know how to block shots in NHL 24? NHL 24 has arrived and the buzz around the community couldn’t be much greater.

Fans everywhere are already playing the game thanks to NHL 24 early access. The full NHL 24 release date is not far behind, so there is not long to wait.

Having said that, there will be many players who are stepping into the world of NHL for the very first time on console, and we want to help them get started on the right track.

With all that in mind, let’s take a look at how you can help out your team and block shots in NHL 24.

How to block shots in NHL 24

Scoring goals may be the glamorous side of the game, but doing the dirty defensive work is equally, if not more, important.

We’ve already covered how you can stop your opponent by means of body-checking them into oblivion, but there are some more subtle, less aggressive ways, to help your team in the defensive phase.

Blocking shots is a simple way to help your team prevent the puck from finding the goal, with defensive players having the chance to protect the goalkeeper and block the puck before it even gets close to the goal.

There are two different ways in which you can block shots in NHL 24: crouch blocking and dive blocking.

To Crouch Block in NHL 24, you will need to:

  • Get into the shooting lane and press L1 (PlayStation)
  • Get into the shooting lane and press LB (Xbox)

This method can also be used to block passes.

To Dive Block in NHL 24, you will need to:

  • Get into the shooting lane and press L1 and R1 at the same time (PlayStation)
  • Get into the shooting lane and press LB and RB at the same time (Xbox)

Dive blocking definitely involves more risk as you can foul your opponent more easily and concede a penalty.

Either way you choose, we’d recommend heading into NHL 24’s Free Skate mode in order to master your skills before taking them to the rink.

You can also benefit from knowing the NHL 24 best defensemen, which includes cover athlete Cale Makar.
