NBA 2K24 MyCAREER will likely be the most popular mode when the new game launches, and fans are curious what will set it apart from the previous edition of the series. Each year, MyCAREER seems to find more ways to improve and build off its tremendous success with every new NBA 2K title. But the mode is by no means perfect and could use a few tweaks to make it even that much better.

With the NBA 2K24 release date just over a month out, the game’s development is nearly complete as the reveals start to arrive throughout August and into September. But from the new player ratings to MyCAREER and more, NBA 2K24 will be home to a lot of changes, particularly for its hit single player mode. And while we wait for the reveal to go live later this month, here’s a look at our MyCAREER reveal date prediction and five changes we would like NBA 2K24 to integrate into the mode this year.

NBA 2K23

NBA 2K24 MyCAREER reveal date prediction

From what we know so far, the NBA 2K24 MyCAREER reveal will be arriving the week of August 28 along with The City and MyTEAM. In our NBA 2K24 Trailers guide, we are predicting that the NBA 2K24 MyCAREER reveal will take place on Tuesday, August 29.

The reveal date, however, has yet to be announced by NBA 2K and will likely be in the coming weeks. NBA 2K24 has not launched any of its reveals as of right now, but will start doing so this month. So be sure to stay updated here on the latest information you need to know.

NBA 2K23 The Rec

NBA 2K24 MyCAREER Top 5 changes we want to see

For those of you that might not be as familiar with what MyCAREER is in NBA 2K, this fun mode is the single player experience that allows you to create your own detailed MyPLAYER build while playing through offline and online modes that grant you the chance to reach the superstardom you’re after. Along with playing for an actual team and through a story mode via the offline experience, fans can also compete with friends and others in online modes such as The Rec, ProAm, The Park, and more in the neighborhood.

What makes MyCAREER so special in NBA 2K comes down to the neighborhood environments it provides that can allow you to customise your player the way you want with all sorts of great clothing, tattoos, and shoes. In NBA 2K23, The City was the next-gen neighborhood experience while the G.O.A.T. Boat was the one available for current-gen players. MyCAREER has to be one of the most immersive single player gaming experiences in the sports video game industry. And the transformation each neighborhood has endured, has played a very integral role with the success this mode has generated in recent years.

However, as NBA 2K24 prepares for launch later in September and as we await the highly anticipated reveal this month, we here at VideoGamer chose to put together five key changes we are hoping to see this year. NBA 2K24 MyCAREER is a great mode, but still has plenty of potential. And we think these five changes could elevate it to the next level.

5. Better Creativity With Season Prizes

Yes, The City is big and fast travel is important. But how many fast travel devices and or mechanisms does NBA 2K need to introduce over the course of a game, and the answer should be not a whole lot. It simply gets a bit old seeing Level 30+ or Level 40 rewards consisting of some sort of fast travel device when in lets say the previous season and the one before that NBA 2K had other means of fast travel in its reward paths.

The NBA Mascot outfits, on the other hand, are a great reward to add in, and so are the likes of badge points, badge patterns, and fresh outfits to name a few. But the lack of creativity at times was quite evident in NBA 2K23’s season reward paths for MyCAREER. And after having a full year to evaluate what the players enjoyed and appreciated from the reward paths featured in NBA 2K23, NBA 2K24 has to be better with coming up with some new quality prizes that don’t become redundant over the course of the game.

4. Improved Current-Generation Neighborhood

Although the G.O.A.T. Boat was solid for current-generation players, it was a major disappointment in comparison to what The City had to offer. Granted, each neighborhood experience is rooted heavily on how the platform types perform. But the differences were very lopsided between both regardless, making the G.O.A.T. Boat a far-less enjoyable experience.

The G.O.A.T. Boat had no Theater complex for mini games and had to rely heavily on limited park options. The Arena was non-existent as well, which led current-gen players to simply load into NBA games old fashion style. And worst of all, the G.O.A.T. Boat NPCs were as boring as could be (none of which were celebrities mind you), and when you received challenges that you could not complete (let’s say because your player can’t dunk), you could not swap out those challenges. If possible, this all has to change for the next current-generation neighborhood otherwise NBA 2K will risk losing more fans from those platforms all together.

If you’re going to charge $60+ for a current-generation video game experience, you might as well do the very best you can, particularly when you have a next-gen experience that makes it feel like some knockoff mode. And for NBA 2K23, that certainly felt that way, even with some of the differences from the season reward paths throughout the game that were exclusive for current-gen players.

3. More Offline Side Missions After Storyline

NBA 2K has some of the best MyCAREER story modes, but they don’t last very long, and usually taper out after the first season. Although the online modes tend to win over the fans more than the offline experience, there’s some that still very much relish the opportunity to maximize the offline NBA journey, and NBA 2K could do a better job adding in more smaller side missions your player can do for or with the team.

There’s a lot to the business and advertising side that players have to deal with in order to develop their own brand, and that is something NBA 2K24 could implement in their offline mode. Whether it’s free agency talks and negotiations to signing new deals and fulfilling contractual obligations with sponsors, there’s a lot NBA 2K24 could tap into on the NBA level that they could incorporate following the end of the main story. And in recent years, most of these actions are simulated or minimized, which is something NBA 2K could expand upon.

2. Decrease VC Prices For Clothes & Tattoos

From the price of the game itself to then the price of usually having to upgrade your MyPLAYER (unless you grind him from scratch), fans all too often put plenty of money in NBA 2K, and particularly for its MyCAREER mode. NBA 2K’s VC isn’t the easiest currency to collect from just logging in play, and if you’re really trying to enjoy all of the fun aspects of customisation the game mode has to offer, unlocking or purchasing more VC is usually an inevitable reality.

But seeing NBA 2K has never had issues with the demand of fans and their community buying into their game (at least not drastically), it’s in their best interest to embrace the demand by lowering the VC prices for clothing and tattoos in NBA 2K24. For anyone that’s played MyCAREER, you will know firsthand just how much VC it takes to improve your player. And seeing how big of a burden that is to begin with, NBA 2K24 might as well lower their prices so more fans can still work on improving their players but still can save up enough VC to splurge on other accessories.

1. Playing In Olympics & International Tournaments

The next Summer Olympics is taking place in 2024. And could you imagine playing through a season for your team only to be called up to the USA National Team to compete on the international level? It has to become a reality in MyCAREER, and would be fitting to have for its offline experience. The NBA’s international presence and impact continues to grow and expand seemingly every season, and what better way to integrate this change by having your MyPLAYER get a chance at playing in the Olympics or maybe the FIBA World Cup.

Though it might seem like a bit much to add into an offline mode, NBA 2K could easily make it similarly to the All Star break, and have your player mainly play games and talk to the international press. And should you pick a different country outside of the U.S. to represent, you could play with those players and for that team. Again this is a longshot for NBA 2K24. But these kinds of outside-the-box ideas go such a long way and make a big difference when providing one of the most accurately simulated professional NBA experiences in MyCAREER.
