Can you Backup Save on the Switch?

Though Nintendo’s cloud backup service for Switch Online members is quite useful for keeping saved data safe, Capcom specifically disabled this feature for Monster Hunter Rise. We know this because Nintendo cloud backup is enabled by default on all games; therefore, it seems Capcom intentionally opted out of this feature.

The reason behind this is not known, though it does mean that, unfortunately, for Switch players, there’s no way to back up their save data legitimately.

How to Backup Save on Steam

For PC players saving data is a whole other story. With the ability to transfer save data between computers by simply using the save file from one of their accounts, backing up save data is possible. Finding your Monster Hunter Rise save file on Steam, however, can be tricky. Luckily we’ve got you covered with our step-by-step walkthrough below:

  • Open your File Explorer.
  • Select ‘This PC’ from the menu on the left of the window.
  • Click through the directories until you reach this location: C:Program Files (x86)/Steam/UserData/1056[userID]/1446780/Remote.
  • Inside the ‘Remote’ file, you will see a folder named ‘win64_save.’ This is your save.
  • Copy and paste this file to a different location on your hard drive for safekeeping.

It is important to note that Monster Hunter Rise can have multiple save files. Each ID can create up to 3 game characters, so you can have 3 archived files containing character data. You can simply back up the one(s) you want to hold on to.

It is also crucial to remember that because your save file will be updated each time you play, you will have to repeat this process regularly to ensure that your backup is up-to-date. You can choose to do this after specific intervals or preferably each time you’re done playing for the day.

Backing up your Monster Hunter Rise saves is a must if you want to protect your progress. With the option to transfer your save between computers, as well as the ability to create multiple save files, keeping your progress safe on Steam is easy. Whatever issues the game faces, you should have no trouble keeping your progress safe as long as you remember to back up your save file regularly.
