Now that Season 4’s new maps and modes are here, you might have heard the word strafing being thrown around a lot. While it grants you an advantage in battle, most players want 25 hipfire kills while strafing to unlock the Priceless camo for the DG-58 LSW. It ranks highly on our best assault rifles list so it’s no surprise that players want a sleek skin for it. Here’s how you can strafe and get these kills.

What is strafing?

To strafe in the game, you should move while aiming down your sights (ADS). This lets you engage enemies while moving, letting you kill them and earn strafing kills. Note that this does not involve moving the camera. You can strafe by pressing the A and D keys on a keyboard or moving the left stick on a controller. Players can also aim while sliding in MW3.

While the term itself might not be common, you must have certainly done this by accident already. Strafing lowers your odds of being struck by opponents, especially if they aren’t proficient in Modern Warfare 3. It’s one of many types of kills you’ll need to unlock new weapon camos. For instance, the Forged camo challenge for the DG-56 rifle tasks you with getting 10 kills while ADS and strafing.

Moving while aiming is a good way to make enemy snipers and other players miss their shots. Just account for your aim accordingly.

How to get strafing kills fast

Ensure that you are moving while aiming or else your kills won’t count. This movement mechanic can be difficult if you’ve already built some muscle memory to remain still while firing. But with practice across private matches and some game modes, you’ll be racking up strafing kills in no time. Here are some ways to make it easier to get strafing kills in multiplayer matches:

  • Use Stalker Boots
  • Wear Marksman Gloves
  • Try rapid-fire weapons

Use Stalker Boots

Unlocked at level 54, these boots improve your strafe movement and ADS movement speed. This improves your chances of dodging enemy bullets as you attempt to get more strafing kills. It’s also another boost to your aim as you will be able to maneuver better. A buff to your overall movement is great regardless of whether you’re gunning for strafing kills so it’s worth unlocking.

Wear Marksman Gloves

These can be unlocked via the Armory Unlock system at level 25. The Marksman Gloves lower your sway and flinch while in ADS. This helps you be more precise with your shots as you strafe. Weave in and out of cover with this item to rack up strafing kills in MW3.

Try rapid-fire weapons

Do this unless you’re proficient with burst-fire or single-fire ones. If you’re struggling to land shots with a marksman rifle or a sniper rifle, consider an assault rifle or SMG instead. Our best SMGs are perfect for strafing as they are tailored towards mobility while having a solid fire rate.
