Marvel Rivals Season 2, called Hellfire Gala, introduces Emma Frost, a Krakoa-themed battlefield, and a stunning selection of skins that have players buzzing. The hero shooter’s bright cosmetics, ranging from Doctor Strange’s Multiverse of Madness appearance to Cloak & Dagger’s regal Gala costume, have inspired a dedicated community to flaunt their collections and compete for prestige via battle pass freebies such as Scarlet Witch’s Chaos Gown.

Despite some criticism of premium skin costs, such as Peni Parker’s 1600-unit Yatsukahagi bundle, the buzz continues, with Twitch drops and Marvel Unlimited’s unique The Unlimited Thing skin keeping engagement high. With the April 17 patch, a new standout feature has been added called costume color customization, which allows users to change the color palettes of specific skins for a more personalized look.

This system, which affects entrance animations, MVP screens, and emotes, has attracted both excitement and debate because it relies on Unstable Molecules, a new currency to unlock these additional skin colors. To unlock one color style for an eligible skin, players need to shell out 600 Unstable Molecules to claim it. Wondering how to get them? We’ve got you covered here.

How to get Unstable Molecules to unlock custom color skins

Unstable Molecules are a premium currency in Marvel Rivals that allows players to purchase color palettes for certain hero outfits through the game’s skin customization function. Each color palette costs 600 Unstable Molecules, which are presently only available via swapping Lattice, the game’s primary microtransaction currency, at a 1:1 ratio.

For example, 600 Lattice equals approximately $6, as Lattice packs are available in bundles of 500 ($4.99) or 1,000 ($9.99).

To unlock color styles, players must own one of the eligible skins, which are presently limited to Winter Soldier’s Blood Soldier, Luna Snow’s Mirae 2099, Magik’s Punkchild, and Psylocke’s Vengeance. Navigate to the Cosmetics tab in the Heroes menu, then select the hero and skin you want and click the “Customize” option. Select an available palette, buy it using Unstable Molecules, and equip it. Customized colors are applied to in-game models, emotes, entrance animations, and MVP screens, increasing visual appeal.

To equip, return to the Costumes interface and select the palette you purchased. While the feature is physically appealing, several users are dissatisfied with the expensive cost and limited skin choices, recommending pricing closer to 200-300 Lattice for accessibility. Developers have announced that beginning with Season 3, players will be able to gain Unstable Molecules through gameplay, such as challenges or events, lessening their dependency on purchases.
