Manor Lords does not support multiplayer yet

  • Manor Lords will be single player only on launch
  • There are hints that a multiplayer mode could be considered in the future, although nothing has been confirmed yet

Manor Lords promises large-scale conflicts fueled by bustling cities and interlinked economic systems. However, if you were hoping to bring some friends along to battle neighboring lords, you’re not going to be happy. The game does not currently support PVP multiplayer or co-op multiplayer. At least, not yet… Here’s everything you need to know.

Does Manor Lords have multiplayer co-op support at launch?

Manor Lords will not have multiplayer at launch on PC and Xbox consoles. It will be a single-player experience only when it releases on April 26, 2024 for Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store in early access. Over on Reddit, the developer has mentioned that they “want to polish the single-player element first before considering multi[player],” indicating that it may be a possibility in the future.

Since then, there have been even more comments stating how much a multi-player mode could bring to the game. One gamer on the Manor Lords Sub-Reddit wrote: “Watching a first LP on the game, by French YouTuber Koinsky, and I’m hyped **. Can’t help but longing for coop on such a gorgeous game. Have your thoughts evolved, regarding this?”

One fan suggested an Age of Empires-style multiplayer could work really well, which we would have to agree with. For now, though, thoughts of playing with or against friends in Hooded Horse’s game are just a pipe dream.

Manor Lords dev hints at multiplayer in the future

A conversation on Steam’s community forums also had the developer mention that it “would be cool to add later on.” You’ll have a good time even without this feature as developer Slavic Magic did a great job with the game’s economic chains and combat options. We got to try the game’s Steam Next Fest demo and came away impressed thanks to its advanced economy management, large-scale battles, and medieval city-building elements. At the moment though, you won’t be able to team up with players in your own Manor Lords scenarios. Considering that a solo developer is working on the game, expect multiplayer to take a while to implement.

How multiplayer would make Manor Lords even more special

While adding multiplayer is certainly a tall ask, there are several good reasons why players are clamoring for it. It would have been interesting to walk across friendly kingdoms as a Lord/Lady with Manor Lords’ third-person view option. Trade routes between players could let allies inflate prices or tackle weather hazards together. Players could also try clearing hunting grounds or causing deforestation to cripple their foes.

Considering the unique connections between resources and decisions in Manor Lords, co-op support would drastically change how one would approach the city builder. And that’s before combat is thrown into the mix. One player could focus on siege engines while another brings in the cavalry and spearmen. With no official roadmap in sight, we’ll have to wait and see if these features eventually end up in Manor Lords.

Multiplayer might end up being a post-launch addition to the game. But for now, you’ll have to stick to your settlements inspired by 14th century architecture. Before you jump in, make sure to read our Manor Lords tips and tricks.
