No, there is no Manor Lords demo right now

  • There was a Manor Lords demo on Steam in 2022 – however this has since been removed
  • The next chabce to play the game will be early access, which launches later in April
  • Select media and content creators currently have the game and are able to post impressions

After a solid Steam Next Fest demo, Manor Lords is finally approaching its launch. Its blend of tactical combat with deep city-building elements makes it one of 2024’s most highly anticipated strategy titles. But for those wanting to get a taste of the action early, you’re going to need to wait until the release date. That’s because there is no Manor Lords demo, with only a select few media and content creators currently playing the game.

Unfortunately, the Manor Lords demo was pulled from Steam once its Next Fest event ended back in October 2022. The medieval strategy game looks promising, complete with unique weather conditions, residents who raise vegetables and chickens in their backyards, and combat packed with siege engines, peasants, and mercenaries. While we got to spend some time in-game back then, we can no longer access the demo.

Some players found a workaround that involves keeping the demo files and using the .exe file to play the game. Launching the app from the folder would work only if you downloaded the demo between 3-10 October 2022. But since the game files aren’t commonly available, you’ll have to wait for the Manor Lords release date if you want to get your hands on it.

Manor Lords dev advises against looking for the demo

Developer Slavic Magic discouraged downloading the Manor Lords demo files in the Steam Community forums. They noted that “I don’t want to worry about outdated builds flying out there, people complaining about bugs that I might have already fixed and anything else. I want to work at my own pace and present you with a new version that I’m happy with when it’s ready.” It makes sense that they would want players to access only the final build of the game. As a result, they mentioned, “I will be deleting all the info on how to play outside the locked time-frame/download the demo from non-Steam sources, etc. and I appreciate all the people who respect my decision and work as a developer.”

While the earlier demo was limited in scope, it managed to sell Manor Lords’ ambitious plan for its 14th century settlements, kingdoms, and economic systems. Our time in the playable demo was largely bug-free and the final version will certainly be more polished. As Steam’s most wishlisted game with over 2 million wishlists, Manor Lords’s strategy management already has a large fanbase. If you’re one of the fans who didn’t get to try the game out, you’ll have to wait for its launch on PC and Xbox consoles. And if you’ve got Valve’s handheld device, check if Manor Lords offers Steam Deck support.
