As your citizens’ hunger for amenities and commodities grows in Manor Lords, you’ll hit a point where you’ll need Dyes to produce Clothes and Cloaks at Tailor’s Shop burgage plots extensions. As with most goods in Slavic Magic’s Manor Lords, like Leather, Planks, and Hides, establishing a robust Dyes production chain involves several buildings and steps.

Figuring out how it works along with managing other aspects of your settlement, waging wars, and keeping your Approval rating high isn’t always straightforward given Manor Lords leans heavily granular management. We’ll walk you through how to produce Dyes in Manor Lords.

How to get Dyes in Manor Lords

Dyes are made from berries, which are converted into Dyes at the Dyer’s Workshop. To start, you’ll want to build and staff a Forager Hut (x1 Timber) as close to a Berry Deposit as possible. It’s also worth building a Granary (x2 Timber, x10 Stone) close by so that workers won’t have to far to go to deposit gathered berries. This will cut down on transport times and improve efficiency.

Once you have a steady source of berries, construct a Dyer’s Workshop (x2 Timber) near to the Forager Hut and Granary. You’ll find it under the Industry section of the build menu at the bottom of the screen. Assign one or several families to the Dyer’s Workshop and they’ll get to work converting Berries into Dyes then send them over to the Tailor’s Workshop.

Given that Berries are a major source of food, especially early on in Manor Lords, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the production of Dyes so as not to eat through your entire stockpile of Berries. Don’t hesitate to intermittently pause the Dyer’s Workshop if you’ve got hundreds of Dyes stockpiled in your Storehouses.

To help improve Berry gathering, we recommend investing a Development Point (available whenever you improve your Settlement Level) in the Forest Management upgrade in the Development tech tree. The upgrade doubles the capacity of all Berry Deposits. Once you have a larger settlement, you can also import Berries to keep up with the food stall supply needs and Dye production, though the price of 13 Regional Wealth is steep.

Once you’ve started producing Dyes, workers will transport them to Storehouses and then on to Tailor’s Shop, where the raw material is used to produce Clothes and Cloaks, as long as you also have Linen and Yarn, respectively. Cloaks need x1 Linen (produced at the Weaver’s Workshop using Flax gathered in fields by farmers in a Farmhouse) and x1 Dyes, while Clothes requires x1 Yarn (produced by the Weaver’s Workshop from Wool gathered at the Sheep Farm) and x1 Dyes. The Cloaks and Clothes will then be taken to market stalls for distribution to Burgage Plots.
