In Madden 25, you may find yourself in situations where a hurdle is necessary. This move is done by ball carriers, which can be a quarterback, running back, tight end, or wide receiver. It could also be a defensive player if you’ve forced a turnover, though they will be decidedly worse at this tactic than offensive players. Nevertheless, when that situation arises, it’s important to know how to hurdle.

How to hurdle

To hurdle in Madden 25, you need to hold down the sprint button (LT on Xbox, L2 on PlayStation) and run forward at the same time. This will instruct your player to try the hurdle move, which is to jump squarely over a defender who is attempting to make the tackle.

There are a few attributes that affect a player’s ability to successfully hurdle. Primarily, the jump and athleticism overall ratings will determine whether or not the hurdle has a good chance of success. The higher your player can jump, the more likely it is that they can actually get over the defender.

For this reason, we recommend not trying to hurdle with most tight ends, quarterbacks, or any defensive players. Tight ends are usually not athletic enough to pull this off. Quarterbacks usually don’t have the ball-carrying attributes to even think about attempting to hurdle. Some running backs are more physical and can’t jump as high, either.

When to hurdle in Madden 25

Hurdles are one juke move that should be used only in specific scenarios. It’s ideally used when a defender has begun trying to make the tackle. If they’re diving (i.e. lower to the ground), you should try to go over them. Juking to the left or right or even doing a spin won’t really stop them from that position.

Often, Madden 25 will suggest a hurdle. The game may suggest different moves for different situations. If it prompts you to hurdle, it is probably a good time to try it. If it doesn’t, it can still work, but it will have a lower success rate. Time it right, though, because doing it too soon or too late will get you tackled.

If a defender is tackling high or not tackling yet at all, don’t try to hurdle. It won’t work, as all it does is put you in the air for an easy tackle. You can break or avoid a tackle if your feet are on the ground. If they’re not, a ball carrier is vulnerable. Doing it at the wrong time can lead to a big hit and possibly a fumble.

It’s the least applicable ball carrier move in the game. It’s only useful in certain scenarios and with certain players. If used improperly, it will almost always result in failure and possibly something catastrophic.
