Wondering how to soulflay in Lords of The Fallen? Soulflaying is a powerful move, and a key attack you’ll need to make use of when traversing the Umbral realm in Hexwork’s sequel Souls-like. But how does it work, and what do you do when you’re out of Soulflay Charges?

Here, we’re going to explain how to soulflay in Lords of The Fallen, and how to recover Soulflay Charges once you’ve consumed them. If you’re still trying to upgrade the Umbral Lantern, or want to learn how to kick or how to switch weapon, we’ve got you covered.

Lords of The Fallen how to soulflay and how to recover Soulflay Charges: A player soulflays an enemy in the Umbral Realm.

How to soulflay enemies in Lords of The Fallen

To perform a soulflay move, raise up your Umbral Lantern by holding the left trigger (L2) on controller or Ctrl on mouse and keyboard. Then hold the right trigger (R2) on controller or left click on mouse and keyboard as well while facing an enemy or interactable obstacle.

You can use soulflay moves on a number of different entities and obstacles, including.

  • Regular enemies, who can be made vulnerable by drawing out their souls with the move.
  • Umbral Ghosts, which can reveal lore or story detail upon interaction.
  • Level-infused enemies, such as the umbral witches infused into walls, who can be exorcised to move terrain, open paths, or solve puzzles.

Whenever you successfully use a soulflay move, it will consume one Soulflay Charge. Once you’re out of Charges, you’ll need to recover more to use soulflaying again.

How to recover Soulflay Charges

Once you’ve run out of Charges, you can recharge them by syphoning energy from certain anomalies found in the Umbral Realm. The two we encountered in our playthrough for our Lords of The Fallen review were the umbral blisters found across the umbral realm on walls, and umbral entities attached to enhanced enemies, which can be removed via absorption.

To absorb soul power and regain your Umbral Charges, approach one of these targets, raise your Umbral Lantern again, and hold the right bumper (R1) on controller or right click on mouse and keyboard. Continue doing this for a few seconds and you should successfully absorb the energy.

Keep in mind that single attached souls or blisters don’t necessarily replenish one full Charge though, and you may need to find and harvest multiple.

One alternative method available is to consume Umbral Vertebrae. These consumable items will slowly regenerate Soulflay charges over time, though fairly slowly.

That’s how to soulflay in Lords of The Fallen, and how to recover Soulflay Charges. There’s plenty more to learn about the Umbral realm, and the game’s mechanics at large. If you’re not yet sure how to exit the Umbral Realm, or you’re in search of something simpler like the best graphics settings, we can help you out.
