After you cozy up to Chenyek in The Hole in the Wall in Kuttenberg, he’ll eventually unload the Thieves’ Code task on poor old Henry. Thieves’ symbols are scattered around the city and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of the mystery. Chenyek will send you off to find Hog in northern Kuttenberg, who has been up to no good, murdering the one person with possible details about the symbols.
Hog does, however, have a parchment given to him by now-dead Hynek, which features a curious riddle that reads: “A vineyard in the town? Strange, but who knows! And yet there it is, quite nearby. By the water that gushes, now listen and try to keep your eyes open, so that you can tell shortly after the midday bell, you’ll find us where the shadow goes.” In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to solve the Thieves’ Code riddle in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Where to find the old thieve’s hideout
To find the thieves’ hideout, you’ll need to travel to the fountain on Vintner’s Street in the west of Kuttenberg, not far from the western fast travel point. The fountain is the ‘water that gushes’ from the riddle and if you visit at midday, note the direction where Henry’s shadow points: to the north, specifically the nearby trader’s shop. Note that you don’t need to wait until midday to progress the quest.
Though you can head in through the front door, you’ll need to lockpick the door to the back of the shop and there’s a guard that makes this difficult. Instead, make your way round to the back of the house. You’ll need to lockpick the gate but it’s a considerably quieter area so you shouldn’t be caught if you’re careful.

Open the gate, then head into the courtyard, and then into the house. Go through the first door on your left to find a flight of stairs leading down into the basement. At the bottom of the stairs, take a left and lockpick the door. Head through to find the old thieves’ hideout.

Search the hideout and find the thieves’ symbols
Lockpick and loot the chest on the left of the room. Inside, you’ll find various items of clothing, boots, and other random bits and bobs, but more importantly, there’s a Parchment with Drawings. Open up your inventory and read the document to learn about the meaning of the symbols.
Return to Chenyek and let him copy the symbols
Make your way back to The Hole in the Wall and report your findings to Chenyek to wrap up the Thieves’ Code quest. You can also share the secret of the symbols with Knuckles by letting him copy them.
