Wondering if there is PvP mode in MW3 zombies? Then you’re in luck, you’ll find out here. The bad news is that there is not a PvP mode in zombies within Modern Warfare 3. At the time of writing, the mode supports PvE (player versus enemy). Now, that’s not a bad thing, as – per the team’s feedback having spent time on the mode, zombies in Modern Warfare 3 is still a lot of fun. But why did Activision decide against a PvP mode in the first place, and is it really needed? Here’s what we think.

Why is there be no PvP in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?

We’ve known for a while that PVP mode was not part of this year’s game. In fact, Activision confirmed a PvP component was not included in a post on X earlier this year. The decision didn’t go down to well at the time, with some COD fans questioning why it wasn’t at least an option in the game – especially given that there is a PvP element in Modern Warfare’s ambitious DMZ mode.

It’s DMZ’s inclusion of such a mode that brings both hope and trepidation when it comes to the inclusion of PvP in MW3 zombies. For one, having played a lot of DMZ myself, the PvP element doesn’t really add much other than just frustration. There is an element of excitement coming up against an enemy team, an the gunfights can be more fun compared to run-ins with bots. However what happens all too often is that the player-controlled teams avoid each other until at the extraction points. You’re then usually ambushed, rendering the entire mission a failure and leaving the outing with nothing.

The other part of the problem is teamwork. Too often in DMZ teams would fragment, not agree on objectives and exfiltrate leaving members behind. This would often lead to a difficult scenario in which the ‘lone members’ would have the battle their way to an extraction point, most often heavily guarded by opposition teams vying for loot. On paper, and technically, the PvP element works, but the reality is not as enjoyable as it should be.

MW3’s zombies, meanwhile, allows you to team up with other squads. There is no risk of betrayal, rather you’re focusing on teamwork and getting out alive. Personally, I think this is the right call. To go through all of that only to get shot at the end by your so-called buddy would not work well, and quickly erode the trust required for this game mode to truly work. While in theory such a PvP mode could happen in MW3’s zombies, we don’t think it’s likely or the right move – but time will tell if we’re right about that.
