After saving Gina, sneaking into the Ziggurat or Ur, and making it down the elevator shaft in the Atonements adventure in Iraq, take a right and you’ll reach the Secret Vault. It’s a massive square chamber with a high ceiling that’s been bored through with some sort of hulking Nazi drill. On the back wall are four giant concrete slabs with patterned holes.  By now, you’ll know this all means a puzzle to decipher. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to solve the Secret Vault puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Before we dive in, to complete the puzzle note that you’ll need to have collected all the relics in the game as part of the Riddles of the Ancient discoveries – 10 in the Vatican, 15 in Gizeh, 24 in Sukhothai, and 1 in Iraq for a total of 50 (it also gets you the Shadows out of Time trophy). The last one is only obtainable from Voss’ tent in Iraq after completing the story. Finding them all involves solving a ton of puzzles and scouring every part of the three open levels. It’s worth buying the artifact guide maps where possible to make finding them easier.

Secret Vault puzzle solution

To solve the Secret Vault puzzle, you’ll need to insert and rotate artifacts into the four patterned slabs on the wall so that all the individual slots are filled out. Though there are several ways to do this, we’ve settled on having the following number of artifacts in each of the walls, starting from the left – 11, 11, 13, and 15.

We could walk you through the individual placement of each artifact but, we’ll throw it over to annotated images pinpointing where to place the artifact. We’ve also indicated which way you need to rotate each artifact – to the right with an R, and when it’s left with an L.

If the artifacts are placed correctly on the four walls, you’ll unlock a secret ending cut scene and get the Great Circle Mural notebook entry for the trouble. It’s not what we’d call the ‘true’ or ‘good’ ending, but just adds a bit more colour to the story’s culminating moments.
