As Starfield’s early access is now here, you may find yourself asking how do I upgrade to the Starfield Premium Edition? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered.

While there’s many different versions of Starfield to pre-order, those on Game Pass, or who have opted for the game’s standard edition, may be interested to know they can upgrade their copy to get all the benefits of the game’s Premium Edition. Given that Game Pass subscribers only get access to the game’s Standard Edition, and the Premium Edition includes five days of early access, it’s understandable that many people have been searching for a path to upgrade to the premium version without having to buy the entire game a second time.

Here’s what you need to know.

How to get the Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade

There’s a couple of important things you need to know before you begin. And the most important of these is that the Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft store only.

That means if you’ve bought the standard version of Starfield on Steam, then we’re afraid you won’t be able to upgrade at this point. There is no Premium Upgrade for the Steam version of the game – if that changes later we’ll let you know, but this close to early access it appears there’s no way to upgrade a Steam copy of the game from Standard to the Premium Edition without buying the entire Premium Edition of the game.

For everyone else, you’ll simply want to head to the Microsoft Store on either your Xbox Console or PC. Then, search for Starfield – and one of the tiles should read ‘Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade’. Look out for the white banner at the top of the tile that says ‘Upgrade’ to make sure you’ve got the correct one.

The Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade will set you back £34.99 or your local equivalent, but if you’re already subscribed to Xbox Game Pass then you’ll get 10% off this price. Simply hit the green button marked ‘Pre Order’ and you should find the upgrade added to your library, with the Old Mars Skies, Digital Artbook and Soundtrack and Premium Edition content.

You’ll then be able to access the game come the Starfield early access start time, on Friday September 1. It’s as easy as that. If you want to know the full details of the goodies you’ve just got yourself, check out our Starfield pre order editions guide.
