When playing baseball, you know that there are times when you are going to have to slide into a base. It doesn’t necessarily mean you will be safe, but sliding is a good way to avoid tags in MLB The Show 23.

Depending on your settings, sliding may be a process that happens automatically when a play is close, but you can also tell your player to get down manually.

How to slide in MLB The Show 23

To slide in MLB The Show 23, you will need to use the right stick to your advantage. Pressing it up when you come into a base will have you go in head first, reaching in with your hands. Down will do the standard feet-first slide. These two will be the ones you choose from most often.

Purely for getting into a base faster, we recommend the head-first slide. However, this does have an increased risk of injuring your player. The feet-first slide is safer but doesn’t necessarily have a better shot at preventing you from being out.

If you want to add more finesse to your slide, press the right stick left or right to make a hook slide. For this, you will want to pay attention to where the throw is coming in to avoid a tag. For example, if you are trying to stretch a single into a double and the throw is coming in from right field, you will want to hook slide left to avoid that incoming throw and tag.

You can do the same when approaching home plate by moving the right stick diagonally down and to the left or right. This will have your runner do a wider slide to avoid incoming tags.

If you hit a ball in the infield and it is going to be a close play at first base, you can do a head-first slide at the bag by pressing the right stick up as you get close. Unlike the other bases, though, players can run through this bag, so we don’t necessarily recommend doing this as it can injure your players, and it is very unlikely to be the difference in you being safe or not.
