The hype around the new Fortnite season continues. Great rewards, a completely redesigned map, and back-to-back events are the main reasons. However, behind all this excitement, there are still those who play Fortnite as a challenger and these users often ask the following question: how to play in tournaments in Fortnite?
There are dozens of Fortnite tournaments that anyone can participate in from home if they meet certain conditions. Participation is quite simple, but you must follow all the rules. You may not become a world champion right away like Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf and win $1,000,000. But you can have a lot of V-Bucks or free skins that are distributed as prizes in these events.
Without wasting any more time, let’s take a look at how you can participate in Fortnite tournaments and what rules you need to follow.
How to join tournaments in Fortnite?
When we talk about Fortnite tournaments, we have to distinguish between what Epic Games organizes and what third parties do. We’ll focus on Epic Games’ tournaments, because the others (especially the big ones) are purely for professional players, and therefore require players to be invited or to qualify.
Here are some of the Fortnite tournaments organized by Epic Games that you can register for and compete in, in-game:
- Contender Cup
- Elite Cup
- Challenger Cup
- Cash Cup
Fortnite tournaments are updated daily, weekly and monthly. So do not forget to check it in-game. To do so, click on Compete in the top menu on the main screen. When the tournament screen opens, just click on the tournaments to join the ones that are currently active.

With new tournaments coming around every few days, be sure to check regularly if there’s anything new coming up that you want to try out for yourself.
What about the rules? Since Epic Games’ main goal is to create a level playing field for everyone, there are very simple rules for tournaments, even though they change from time to time.
For Cash Cups, there might be one small barrier in that it does require a specific rank. When you play in a ranked lobby, you can move up and down. As long as you’re Gold I rank, you can play in the Cash Cups as they are promoted. These can be solos, duos, trios, and squads.
Can anyone join Fortnite tournaments?
The answer to this question is both yes and no. First of all, you can find the rules for all tournaments active in Fortnite on the official website. It is important to read these rules beforehand, because even if you cheat the system in some way (which is very difficult), you will not be able to win the prize.
To participate in a tournament in Fortnite, you need to follow a few rules. The first of them is that your Epic Games account must be at least level 15. The requirement used to be level 50, but the developers have lowered the limit further.
Secondly, your Epic account needs to have two-factor authentication enabled. It’s pretty simple, but if you need help, you can read this guide that we have prepared for you.
The third set of rules include parameters such as participating in tournaments with only one account, a minimum age of 13, and following special event rules to keep the general playing field level.
Epic Games applies almost all of these rules in all tournaments. Special events, such as the MrBeast tournament, may have additional rules, so you should make sure to check the rules of each individual tournament so you don’t get caught out by any changes.
