Riding is such a great feature in Minecraft. However, to do that, you will need a saddle. In this article, we’ll show all the methods to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft!

How to Make a Saddle in Minecraft

Although Saddle has been added to Minecraft a long time ago (1.8 version), there is no official way to craft or make a saddle in Minecraft. You can only obtain it from specific places and mobs. Let’s read further to see what are they!

4 Ways to Obtain a Saddle in Minecraft

We sort those methods by difficulty. This means the easiest way to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft is to look for treasure chests. While the hardest and riskest way is to find specific mobs and kill them. So consider picking a way that suits you the most!

#1 Looking for Treasure Chests

By adventuring around in the Minecraft world, you can discover many generated structures such as dungeons, temples, or villages. Those structures may contain chests with saddles inside them. So when you found one, try looking for chests!

Below is the list of all structures with a chance of chests containing a Saddle.

  • Dungeon: 27.9% in Java Edition and 28.3% in Bedrock Edition
  • Ancient City: 16.1%
  • Bastion Remnant: 13.6%
  • Desert Temple: 23.5%
  • Jungle Temple: 12.9% in JE and 12.8% in BE
  • End City: 13.3%
  • Nether Fortress: 35.3%
  • Stronghold: 2.5% in JE and 2.4% in BE
  • Village: 11.3% to 17.3%, depending on the house.

As you can see, the more dangerous the structure is, the higher chance you can find a Saddle in its chest.

#2 Fishing

This is by far the most peaceful method to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft! However, we make this the number two on the list because the chance to catch a Saddle while fishing is super low, with only 0.8% to 1.9% chance.

To go fishing in Minecraft, you will need to craft a fishing rod using 3 sticks and 2 strings following the crafting recipe below. Then you may want to enchant your fishing rod with Luck of the Sea enchantment to increase the chance to get a Saddle. (+0.3% per level)

#3 Trading with Villagers

This is another peaceful method to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft. But it actually takes you quite a lot of time and materials! First, you need to find a Village structure. If in method 1, you already found a village with no chest containing a Saddle, try this one!

Find the Leatherworker villager and start trading with it. If you can’t find one, you can craft a Cauldron and place it down near any unemployed villager to turn them into the Leatherworker.

When the Leatherworker reaches Master level, you can trade 6 emeralds with him for a Saddle. You can repeat this process 12 times before it’s locked and you have to wait half a day in Minecraft to trade with him again.

#4 Killing Mobs

The final method to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft is to kill specific mobs. Since mobs will drop a Saddle on death if they spawn with one. The reason we make this number four is that not only will take a lot of time to find the mobs, but it’s also super dangerous to kill them!

The first mob that can spawn with a Saddle is Strider, which only spawns in the Nether dimension, specifically on the lava lake. Do you see how dangerous it’s? And the chance to retrieve a Saddle in the middle of the lava lake is super low!

The second mob on the list is a Ravager, which is a massive and dangerous hostile mob with 100 health points, and 7-18 damage (this is x3-x6 damage compared to a normal zombie). Also, Ravager mostly spawn within a Raid wave, which means they spawn with other mobs, making defeating one super hard!

So there are 4 ways to obtain a Saddle in Minecraft. We hope you spend some time and do some research before going on an adventure for a Saddle. Prepare your gears and let’s go!
