The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought a multitude of novel features to one of Nintendo’s oldest and most beloved franchises. One of the elements that players had to start getting acclimated to during its initial release was its cooking mechanic.

Previous entries in the Zelda franchise had constantly introduced new ways to heal Link throughout his journey. In BotW, however, cooking and subsequently eating meals is one of the only ways to regenerate lost HP. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t exactly tell you how to use this feature so players often have to figure it out themselves.

Luckily, we’re here to make your adventure much easier by showing you how to cook in Breath of the Wild.

How do you cook in Breath of the Wild?

In order to cook in Breath of the Wild, you’ll need to gather any type of consumable ingredient first. Next, you’ll have to head over to a Cooking Pot where you can combine the ingredients you’ve gathered into a cohesive dish.

Once you’ve found one, open up your Inventory and head to the Materials section. Then, select the first ingredient you want to include in your meal and choose the Hold option. This will allow you to add four more components to your recipe since five is the maximum you can combine for each dish.

With all five ingredients selected, exit out of the inventory and interact with the Cooking Pot by simply pressing the A button. You will then have to wait for a few seconds after which the final product will be displayed.

Sadly, there isn’t a recipe book in BotW that allows you to keep track of the food you’ve made. This means you’ll simply have to keep experimenting to unlock all of the recipes that the game has to offer.
