Catching fly balls and line drives is a simple skill that you will only get better at the more you play. As soon as the hitter sends the ball in the air, a big baseball image pops up on the field, indicating where the ball will land. As the ball draws closer to the turf, the image will get smaller and smaller, until it falls or is caught.

In short, all you need to do is move your player with the left analog stick towards the baseball icon on the field, and upon doing so, your player will automatically secure the catch. That’s right! You don’t need to press anything or doing anything of the sort to secure your catch. All you need to do is move your player to the baseball icon highlighted on the field and he will do the rest.

Should the baseball icon be smaller and further away, you can still cover ground with your player, and should you come near the baseball image on the field, can secure the catch, whether your player reaches or stoops for it. So just because you get a bad step, always give your chase down a chance when catching fly balls.

Pursuit

When you attempt to make a catch in MLB The Show 23, you will quickly realize that how you pursue the ball will directly impact your ability of catching it. As soon as the ball is hit in the air, it can carry quite a bit. And should you take too many steps forward, for example, the ball can sale right over your head and cost you a run or more.

In addition, that first step you take will be key to how well you can play the ball. If you pull your momentum the wrong way, it can ultimately lead your player to be out of position and not be able to move to the spot in time to make the catch. Keep in mind, however, that diving is very risky to pull off.
