Hogwarts Legacy – How To Get More Gear Slots

As you make your way through Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll amass a glut of gear, from hats and robes to spectacles and gloves, which boost your stats in various ways. To make room for all these sartorial goodies in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need gear slots or quickly find you’ve maxed out your starting capacity of 20 gear slots. Frequent visits to various vendors to liquidate your stock of low-level gear can get tedious, and more gear slots extend the gap between visits.

Fortunately, Hogwarts Legacy allows you to get more gear slots, though doing so takes a bit of effort, chiefly by completing challenges linked to what are called Merlin Trials. Merlin Trials are optional puzzles scattered across Hogwarts Legacy.

How To Unlock Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy

You’ll need to complete the Trials of Merlin main story quest to unlock Merlin Trials. The mission is available shortly after meeting Natty Onai in Lower Hogsfield and completing The Girl From Uagadou story quest.

Once the Trials of Merlin quest marker pops up on your mini-map, cross the bridge next to the Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame to find Nora Treadwell caught up in a heated argument. A battle with a group of Ashwinders follows. Once the dust settles, Nora will share her research on Merlin Trials, and you’ll solve the first of these puzzles with her help.

From this point, Merlin Trial locations will appear on your map, represented by a leaf icon in various locations in the valleys and forests around Hogwarts. To start a Merlin Trial, visit the location on the map and interact (‘Use Mallowsweet’) with the stone disc on the ground to start the trial.

How To Get More Gear Slots in Hogwarts Legacy

Now that you’ve unlocked Merlin Trials, you’ll be able to start the process of getting more gear slots. Confusingly, completing Merlin Trials themselves doesn’t grant slots, but rather by completing the Challenges linked to the trials. These involves completing a set number of trials to unlock an ‘Inventory Expansion Reward’, or, put simply, gear slots.

You can check your progress by loading up the Field Guide, heading to the Challenges menu, then selecting Exploration. Here you’ll see your progress under the Complete Merlin Trials section. For the first challenge, you need to solve two Merlin Trials. Completing the challenge rewards you with 4 extra gear slots. This is the case for all five challenges, granting you an extra 20 gear slots if you complete all of them.
