The black screen crash in Granblue Fantasy: Relink could be down to several factors. The Steam page itself is being flooded with people reporting the same problem, so it’s a fairly widespread issue now.
If your game is crashing when you try to play, there are a couple of things you can try to fix the error until the developers provide a hotfix or address the problem.
Launch the game and don’t press anything
It might sound simple, but you could try this method. As soon as you launch the game, leave everything alone and don’t touch a single key or move the mouse once. You might end up looking at a blank screen for a while, but if you leave it be you might find that the game might simply take a long time to load. If this works and you get past seeing the logos, you shouldn’t have any issues.
If you’re playing the game using a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, you could also try disconnecting your controller or unplugging any USB cables or dongles before launching the game. If it works and it loads, you can plug your controller back in and start playing.
Patience is key

Before you reinstall the game, right-click on it in Steam and select the ‘Browse local files’ option. This will bring up the folder where the game is installed. Make sure that there is nothing in there before reinstalling the game. You might see there are some files or folders left over after uninstalling, so delete any excess and then reinstall Relink.
Update Nvidia and other drivers on your computer
If you’ve somewhat neglected your PC’s drivers or Nvidia GeForce, you should run a check to see if there are any driver updates you can install. It could be that your drivers are outdated and so there are compatibility issues with Relink being a modern game. To check for driver updates, press the Windows key and type the following into the search bar: device manager.
Click the first option that comes up and you will see all your drivers. Click on Display Adapters and then right-click on the driver you use to select ‘update driver’. Search automatically for a new update and see if anything is installed.
Outside of this, you should also launch Nvidia GeForce Experience if you use it. Once open, click on the Drivers tab and then select check for updates. Let Nvidia install whatever it needs to and then reset your PC. Try launching the game again, and see if anything is different.
Request a refund or wait until a new patch
If none of these suggestions helps fix the black screen error in Relink, you might be forced to either way for a new patch or word from the devs, or you can just request a refund on Steam for the game. Since refunds on Steam are approved or denied based on playtime, if you’ve not even played the game, there is no harm in waiting for an update instead of immediately refunding it. The choice is yours, it depends on how frustrated you are by the error. Obviously, refunding the game means you will no longer have access to it.
