In this guide, we’ll walk you from start to finish through The Word of Fate main path chapter in God of War Ragnarok. Kratos is seeking answers and heads to Midgard to question the Norns.

The Word of Fate represents a major story beat in God of War Ragnarok and as such the below walkthrough features some spoilers. We’ve tried to avoid revealing too much, but there are a few in there, so tread carefully if you want to experience everything yourself firsthand.

Travel to Midgard

Leave Sindri’s house and use the mystic gateway to travel to Midgard.

Find the Wolves at the Kennel – The Word of Fate

Follow Freya to the kennels and interact with the sled.

Follow the Wolves to the Norns – The Word of Fate

Interact with the sled and drive the wolves to the Lake of Nine. The wolves will point you towards the Norns with head movements and louder barking as you near. For ease, head to the northeast part of the lake and follow the path until you reach a ledge. Freya will explain you’ll need to continue on foot.

Climb the ledge and push forward to reach King’s Grave. Fight the enemies there and then interact with the gravestone at the center of the area to pick up the Inert Hilt of Skofnung.

Follow Freya down the path on the right and to a cave hidden by Norn illusions. A false lead.

Continue Tracking the Norns

Return to the sled and follow the wolves’ scent to the southwest of the Lake of Nine.

Again, there’s a ledge preventing you from going further with the sled. Hop over and go to Freya who will dispel another Norn illusion. Again, there’s nothing there.

Return to the Wolves and Continue Tracking the Norns – The Word of Fate

Go back to the sled, and the wolves will guide you to the northwest corner of the Lake of Nine. Again, a ledge prevents on-sled access. Hop off and climb over.

Grapple up and then axe through the ice barring the path. Defeat the enemies beyond and continue climbing upwards. Fight off another group of Raiders then follow Freya to yet another illusion – the right one this time.

Find the Norns at the Well of Urd

Enter the cave, jump down the ledge, and burn the vines on the right. Grapple up to the level above and fight Kratos’ doppelganger. Continue out of the cave. The path only goes one way from here. You’ll encounter two more lots of projections.

Once they are dealt with, climb up the rock face ahead. Here you’ll face a Frozen Phantom. Aim for the rune, until it’s stunned. Dive in and pile on the attacks, then slash at the glowing purple pillars to whittle down its true health. For your efforts, you’ll get a Jewel of Yggdrasil Amulet upgrade and a Chaos Flame.

Lift the rock at the back of the arena and push on, across a gap, to the cave where the Norns are waiting. Enter the cave, and make your way down. Interact with the door at the bottom. Fight your way through the various projections, then through the open door to enter the Well of Urd. Mount the Kelpie and meet the Norns.

Leave the Norns – The Word of Fate

Mount the Kelpie again then make your way out of the cave. Climbing and dropping as the path dictates until you reach the sled to complete The Word of Fate.
