In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Into the Fire main path chapter of God of War Ragnarok. An unlikely duo, Thor and Atreus travel to the fiery realm of Muspelheim to track down a mask fragment for the All-Father himself.
As Into the Fire is part of the main path, it’s story rich. We’re keeping spoilers and major story elements to a minimum, but for the purpose of guiding you through the mission, there are a few in there. You’ve been warned.

God of War Ragnarok – Into the Fire Walkthrough
Search for the Mask Fragment with Thor
Pull out the mask and move towards the large rock on the left. Thor will clear a path. Step forward to reach the Burning Cliffs area of Muspelheim. Fight the enemies then point the mask up at the cliff at the end of the path. Thor will kindly carry you up.
Fight the enemies there. Loot the red coffin at the back and the chest beyond the crawl space on the right of the arena. Point the mask at the rocks on the left. Thor obliges and clears the path. Push forward, following the path upwards. Shimmy across the ledge and take on the enemies ahead. Use the mask then go to Thor to jump down. Then repeat. Fight off the enemies in the large area. Thor will leave to take on the Muspelheim challenges, leaving you to explore alone.
Investigate Surtr’s Shrine – Into the Fire
Crawl through the gap and head towards the shrine. Climb across the cliff, then down. Take on the Wisps. Destroy the pillar on the left as a priority to prevent more spawning. Loot the chest to the right, then open the shrine.
Resume the Search for the Mask Fragment
Backtrack to the arena to find Thor. Defeat all the enemies – Thor won’t be any help, so you’re on your own. Go left up the path once Thor’s cleared the rocks and follow it to the end.
Go Back to Atreus’ Headquarters – Into the Fire
Once back in Asgard, head back to Atreus’ room. Before leaving Odin’s cave, loot the Legendary chest for the Runic Capacity accessory.
