These are the best builds for Childe in Genshin Impact. Childe is a five-star Hydro user who can switch between ranged and melee attacks, devastating foes with his powerful Riptide effect. Childe, otherwise known as Tartaglia, fits into your teams as a main DPS, which means the best builds for Childe focus on a standard Hydro DPS build.

Best weapons for Childe (Tartaglia)

The best weapon for Childe is the Polar Star, a five-star bow. Since the Polar Star is Childe’s signature weapon in Genshin Impact, it is perfectly suited for his playstyle. With that in mind, not everyone has access to Polar Star since it can only be claimed from the limited weapon banner. Nearly every single five-star bow is an excellent choice for Childe.

While Polar Star is Childe’s best-in-slot weapon, there are plenty of alternatives that you can use to get similar results. Unfortunately, the Battle Pass bow the Viridescent Hunt is arguably the best four-star weapon for Childe since it synergises extremely well with his abilities thanks to its grouping ability. Rust is another great option for Childe, but again this can only be gained from wishing on banners, which means it can be difficult to come by. The problem with Childe is his lack of F2P-friendly options. Check out this table to see the best weapons for DPS Childe.

WeaponMain StatPassive Effect
Polar Star (5*)Crit RateElemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increased by 12%. After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, 1 stack of Ashen Nightstar will be gained for 12s. When 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar are present, ATK is increased by 10/20/30/48%. The stack of Ashen Nightstar created by the Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst will be counted independently of the others.
Thundering Pulse (5*)Crit DMGIncreases ATK by 20% and grants the might of the Thunder Emblem. At stack levels 1/2/3, the Thunder Emblem increases Normal Attack DMG by 12/24/40%. The character will obtain 1 stack of Thunder Emblem in each of the following scenarios: Normal Attack deals DMG (stack lasts 5s), casting Elemental Skill (stack lasts 10s); Energy is less than 100% (stack disappears when Energy is full). Each stack’s duration is calculated independently.
Skyward Harp (5*)Crit RateIncreases CRIT DMG by 20%. Hits have a 60% chance to inflict a small AoE attack, dealing 125% Physical ATK DMG. Can only occur once every 4s.
Viridescent Hunt (4*)Crit RateUpon hit, Normal and Aimed Shot Attacks have a 50% chance to generate a Cyclone, which will continuously attract surrounding opponents, dealing 40% of ATK as DMG to these opponents every 0.5s for 4s. This effect can only occur once every 14s.
Scion of the Blazing Sun (4*)Crit RateAfter a Charged Attack hits an opponent, a Sunfire Arrow will descend upon the opponent hit, dealing 60% ATK as DMG, and applying the Heartsearer effect to the opponent damaged by said Arrow for 10s. Opponents affected by Heartsearer take 28% more Charged Attack DMG from the wielder. A Sunfire Arrow can be triggered once every 10s.
Prototype Crescent (4*)ATK%Aimed Shot hits on weak points increase Movement SPD by 10% and ATK by 36% for 10s.
Hamayumi (4*)ATK%Increases Normal Attack DMG by 16% and Charged Attack DMG by 12%. When the equipping character’s Energy reaches 100%, this effect is increased by 100%.
Rust (4*)ATK%Increases Normal Attack DMG by 40% but decreases Charged Attack DMG by 10%.

Which weapon is best for Childe?

Any five-star bow you have will be excellent on Childe, with the exception of Amos’ Bow. Outside of this, the best weapon for him is the Viridescent Hunt. If you have no other options, crafting the Hamayumi bow for Childe will work as an excellent option, along with weapons like the Stringless and Rust.

For those of you who are F2P, we recommend using Hamayumi as Childe’s best weapon. If you have the Viridescent Hunt, this is Childe’s best 4* weapon.

Best Artifact sets for Childe (Tartaglia)

While Childe’s overall kit is hard to manage with cooldowns, Artifacts are much more simpler for Childe. Childe’s best artifact set is the four-piece Nymph’s Dream. When building Childe as your main DPS, you want to focus on the standard setup for main stats, which are ATK%, Hydro DMG, and Crit Rate/DMG depending on what you need more.

Wearing the full four-piece set of Marechaussee Hunter will give Childe a boost to Hydro DMG and grant a sizeable ATK% bonus when attacking. We don’t recommend using any other Artifact set, but you could try a four-piece Heart of Depth Artifact set on Childe, or a mixed set with Heart of Depth and Gladiator’s Finale, but these are not optimal for Childe.

Artifact SetSet BonusReason
Nymp’s DreamTwo-piece: Hydro DMG bonus +15%
Four-piece: After Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts hit opponents, 1 stack of Mirrored Nymph will be triggered, lasting 8s. When under the effect of 1, 2, or 3 or more Mirrored Nymph Stacks, ATK will be increased by 7%/16%/25%, and Hydro DMG bonus will be increased by 4%/9%/15%. Mirrored Nymph stacks created by Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts exist independently.
Due to Childe’s playstyle, the Nymph’s Dream set is the best Artifact for Childe. It increases his Hydro DMG which synergises well with his Skill and it gives a further boost to Hydro DMG with the full set, along with an ATK% boost. Nymph’s Dream is the best artifact set for Childe by far.
Genshin Impact - Childe (Tartaglia) in the character screen

Due to how optimal the Nymph’s Dream Artifact set is, you shouldn’t bother using any others. For a Hydro main DPS, Childe will serve you best with Nymph’s Dream. Now you know the set, you need to figure out the main stats and substats to focus on. As mentioned, main DPS typically don’t need anything too stressful to farm other than Crit Rate/DMG Artifacts can be hard to come by. Use this table to figure out the best Artifact stats for Childe.

Artifact PieceMain StatSubstat Priority
FlowerHPAKT% > CRIT Rate/DMG > Elemental Mastery
FeatherATKAKT% > CRIT Rate/DMG > Elemental Mastery
SandsAKT%AKT% > CRIT Rate/DMG > Energy Recharge
GobletPyro DMGAKT% > CRIT Rate/DMG > Energy Recharge
CircletCrit Rate/DMGAKT% > CRIT Rate/DMG > ER/EM > HP

As you can see, the following setup for Childe will get you the most optimal build for him as a Hydro DPS. Your substats don’t need to be too important, but you need to make sure you’re giving yourself a good Crit Rate and Crit DMG spread, typically you want to have over 50% Crit Rate and well over 100% Crit DMG to get the most out of your critical hits.

Childe (Tartaglia) Talent priority

You should level Childe’s Talents in this order: Skill > Burst > Normal Attack. When it comes to levelling Childe’s Talents, you should focus on levelling his Skill. Childe’s Skill is tied to one of his mechanics called Riptide which will cause a splash of AoE Hydro DMG when you hit an opponent. Riptide is incredibly useful for dealing with groups of enemies since it spreads to everyone it hits. Once you’ve levelled your Skill, you should focus on Childe’s Burst for the significant damage multipliers.

Levelling Childe’s Normal Attack only boosts the damage done by his ranged attacks, which means it doesn’t increase the damage he does when using his Skill. However, his Normal Attack Talent does increase how much damage Riptide does when you beat an enemy, meaning the priority isn’t super high. If you want to level Childe’s Normal Attack, getting it to level 6 is a good place to stop.

Childe’s (Targalia) Constellations

Childe’s Constellations aren’t anything special at all, which is nice considering how hard it is to pull for multiple versions of the same five-star. C1 does give you the ability to manage his Skill cooldown much more effectively by decreasing the cooldown by 20%. Other than that, there isn’t a huge difference in playstyle and damage output if you have Childe at C0.

ConstellationEffect
Foul Legacy: Tide WithholderDecreases the CD of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide by 20%
Foul Legacy: UnderstreamWhen opponents affected by Riptide are defeated, Tartaglia regenerates 4 Elemental Energy.
Abyssal Mayhem: Vortex of TurmoilIncreases the Level of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
Abyssal Mayhem: HydrospoutIf Tartaglia is in Foul Legacy: Raging Tide’s Melee Stance, triggers Riptide Slash against opponents on the field affected by Riptide every 4s, otherwise, triggers Riptide Flash. Riptide Slashes and Riptide Flashes triggered by this Constellation effect are not subject to the time intervals that would typically apply to these two Riptide effects, nor do they have any effect on those time intervals.
Havoc: Formless BladeIncreases the Level of Havoc: Obliteration by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
Havoc: AnnihilationWhen Havoc: Obliteration is cast in Melee Stance, the CD of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide is reset. This effect will only take place once Tartaglia returns to his Ranged Stance.
