Forza Motorsport’s release is around the corner and while many of the previous iterations haven’t been permanently online, times are changing. So is Forza Motorsport always online? Well, read on and we’ll tell you.

Given that the game hasn’t released yet, be sure to check out our Forza Motorsport release date guide, as well as our Forza Motorsport release time guide so you know exactly when the game goes live in your region.

Can Forza Motorsport be played offline?

Plainly put, you can in fact play Forza Motorsport offline, but only a small portion of the game. According to the developers on their monthly livestream from June 2023, creative director Chris Esaki states:

“The game has been designed to easily adjust and add new content over time. It’s really to ensure a fair and secure experience anywhere in the game. So any progression in the game will be stored on our servers to support the integrity of the overall game experience. There are options for playing offline. So things like Free Play is always available, but any progression requires an online connection.”

The small portion of the game that you can play offline is the Free Play mode, but if you’re looking to add progression to your account in any way, you’ll need a connection to the game’s servers for that progression to be stored.

Given that Forza Motorsport is only releasing on Windows PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam, as well as the Xbox Series X|S consoles should mean that you are going to have an internet connection. But if for whatever reason that connection fails, any progress that you make may not carry over to your account when you get back online.

Now, if you want to partake in Forza Motorsport’s Multiplayer race experiences, you’ll obviously need an internet connection, but you will also need an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription. Otherwise, you’ll only have access to Rivals for online play.

But that’s all there is to know about if Forza Motorsport is always online. For more, check out our guide on if Forza Motorsport is coming to the Steam Deck. Also check out our guides about the Forza Motorsport VIP membership and the Forza Motorsport Loyalty Rewards program.
