Wondering if you can play Fortnite on Mac?
With solid cross-platform support, Fortnite is enjoyed by millions across the globe. If you’ve got a MacBook with an Intel or Apple Silicon processor, you might want to hop on the battle bus too. Read up on the Fortnite item shop if you’re already playing the game.
But if you aren’t, here’s what you need about Mac support.
Can you play Fortnite on Mac
Yes, you can play Fortnite on Mac but only till Chapter 2 Season 3. This is because of a dispute between Apple and Epic Games on the game’s monetization and the cut that Apple takes. While some players have reported that you can access Chapter 2 Season 3 via the Epic Game Launcher on Mac, it’s an outdated version. You’ll be missing out on playing with friends across platforms and other perks like LEGO Fortnite.

Our 5 methods to play Fortnite on Mac
We’ve got some methods that will let you sidestep the limitation placed by Epic Games to play Fortnite on Mac:
- Use Xbox Cloud Gaming for Fortnite – While you need a Xbox Game Pass subscription and an Xbox controller for this, you can access the latest content this way. And with a good internet connection, it will feel just as seamless as natively playing it on your Mac device. We’ve got a handy guide to play Fortnite on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Try NVIDIA’s GeForce Now streaming service – Just like the previous example, this is another cloud gaming platform to consider. You can also use this on older Intel Macs.
- Run Windows on an Intel Mac with Boot Camp – While compatibility isn’t guaranteed with this method, it’s worth a shot. Once you get Windows running, it shouldn’t take long to head to the Epic Games Store and download Fortnite. While virtual machines like Parallels can run Fortnite in theory, its anti-piracy tools won’t let you do so.
- AirPlay via an iPhone that has Fortnite on it – Since the game was removed from the App Store as well, I wouldn’t recommend this unless you’re okay with an outdated version.
- Play an older version with the Epic Games Launcher – You’ll only have access to version 13.40 as the game no longer receives Mac updates. It can take up to 95 GB of storage space. Note that you must have Mac Mojave 10.14.6 or later to run Fortnite on your computer. This version also doesn’t have V-Bucks and the item shop. That means no new bling, fancy accessories, gffts, and more.
Cloud streaming services are a good way to play Fortnite on Mac
If you’ve got a reliable internet connection, consider services like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
That covers how you can play Fortnite on Mac. Until Apple loosens its grip on monetization, Epic Games will continue to present Apple users with an outdated version of the game. If you’ve managed to play it on another platform, read up on the latest Fortnite map. And here are the best Fortnite XP maps for power leveling. The game is out on Android, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
