The cross-platform error is preventing many Fortnite players from playing the new season. The error seems to be exclusive to Xbox, and Epic Games is aware of it. Fortunately, it appears that the game developer has already found a fix and will release it in a future update. Due to this, we expect the fix to fix the error for good and prevent it from popping up again. In the meantime, we will reveal how you can fix the cross-platform error on your gaming system. This process takes only a few minutes, and once you do it, you’ll be able to jump back into the game and try Fortnite Season 4.
How to fix the Xbox cross-platform error
“Cross-platform play currently disabled” and “Cross-platform permissions required” are the errors many Xbox players have encountered lately. Unfortunately, changing privacy settings doesn’t help with this issue, as it’s a Fortnite bug. The good news is that you can easily fix it, and the entire process takes less than three minutes.
To fix the cross-platform error on Xbox, these are the steps you need to follow:
- Turn off your Xbox Series S/X
- Unplug the console
- Unplug all accessories connected to the console
- Leave the console unplugged for two minutes
- Press and hold the power button while the console is unplugged
- Reconnect the power cord
- Turn on your Xbox Series S/X
- Start Fortnite.

These steps will clear the Xbox cache and fix the cross-platform error in Fortnite. However, keep in mind that this is just a temporary solution provided by Epic Games. Due to this, you may encounter the error a few more times before a bug fix comes out. The first major update of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 will either come in late August or early September, and this is when we expect the fix to come out.
