How to change playing time in FM24

There are two factors to consider with playing time in FM. These are expected playing time and actual playing time. Expected playing time is the playing time you agreed when your player signed their contract, whereas actual playing time is how much they’re actually playing.

A player with an agreed playing time of Breakthrough Prospect, for example, will be thrilled if they’re playing every game, as their actual playing time will be Regular Starter. On the other hand, a Star Player only coming off the bench every other game will not be happy, and may demand you give them their promise playing time.

The easiest way to change playing time is by offering them a new contract. This will let you negotiate the promised playing time to something new. However, unless a player has become worse of you’ve improved your team significantly, it’s unlikely that they would agree to a reduction in playing time.

This means, you’ll have to first reduce their actual playing time. A handy trick is to threaten to sell them if they ever complain about playing time, as most players will drop their concerns immediately. However, some players may call your bluff and ask to be sold, so be ready for this eventuality. Once their actual playing time is lowered, they will be more likely to agree to a lower promised playing time.
