The season has kicked off, a new football game is just around the corner, and TOTW 1 is live in FC 24 Ultimate Team! Team of the Week has been a staple celebration of the top-performing players from real-world matches for years, bringing regularly boosted cards to FUT.

With the EA Sports FC 24 release date fast approaching, we’re taking a look at the first TOTW drop! Find out everything you need to know about TOTW 1 in EA FC 24 Ultimate Team below.

FC 24 TOTW 1 release date

The TOTW 1 release date in FC 24 Ultimate Team was September 20. This was previously leaked on X (formerly Twitter), by the ever-reliable @fifa_romania.

Boosted cards were added to packs at 1pm EST / 6pm BST. They will stay available for one week only before rotating out.

TOTW 1 was released in FUT at the same time the FC 24 Web App went live, giving you early access to Ultimate Team. As the FC 24 early access release date for those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition of FC 24 is September 22, it means TOTW 1 will only be available in packs to those with early access. This makes it an exclusive and unique selling point. EA has already used this tactic with the first campaign of FUT 24, the Nike Mad Ready promo

FC 24 TOTW explained

For those that don’t know how Team of the Week works, or just need a quick refresher, we’re here to help! Team of the Week, more commonly known as TOTW, is a promotional squad of boosted players released into packs every Wednesday. Previously it contained 23 cards, but this has been lowered to 18 in FC 24.

A player is selected for a spot in the side if they have performed well the previous week in real life. Domestic league and cup matches are taken into account, as well as international games. Outfield players scoring goals and providing assists, and goalkeepers making penalty saves or keeping a clean sheet, are good indicators of who may be selected.

The player gains an In Form card, also referred to as IF, which is boosted differently according to a number of factors. Effectively, the lower the rating of a player, the bigger a boost they will receive. However, the TOTW rating is impacted by the player’s most recent performance-based item overall. This means that upgrades stack and the boosts remain relevant over the season.

This year, EA has introduced a few new additions and improvements to Team of the Week. As well as lower-rated players gaining a larger upgrade, all TOTW players will now be rated 80+ OVR! There will also be larger upgrades in areas deemed as key stats, such as Pace and Dribbling. Finally, Featured TOTW players will still be eligible for bigger boosts as well as Weak Foot and Skill Moves upgrades. However, the WF and SM upgrades will now carry through to the player’s next TOTW version! Additional PlayStyles are also planned to be used on Featured TOTW items in future Seasons.

We could have a couple of big hitters in the first TOTW of the season! Robert Lewandowski got a goal and provided two assists as Barcelona won 5-0 against Real Betis. Then, Mohamed Salah proved pivotal in Liverpool’s comeback at Wolves, providing two assists to help The Reds come out 3-1 victors. He would have had three if Harvey Elliott’s strike had been on target!

Another Premier League side that needed to make a comeback at the weekend was Manchester City, facing a resilient West Ham. Bernardo Silva got a goal and an assist. We predicted that his teammate Julian Alvarez would get in over him, who provided two assists as City won 3-1. Instead, EA opted for Jeremy Doku, who was threatening on the wing and grabbed a goal in his second game for the club.

Mats Hummels secured a spot after the German defender netted a brace for Borussia Dortmund! Two goals for a center-back was definitely enough to get him in the squad.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan got two goals and an assist as Inter ran riot in the Milan derby! AC Milan lost 5-1 to their rivals in Serie A.

Sakina Karchaoui of PSG Feminine is the first female player to gain a Team of the Week item! The French full-back scored a penalty and provided two assists as her side beat Bordeaux 3-0.

Top Tips

We’ve partnered with @NealGuides to bring you some expert advice on various FC 24 Ultimate Team releases throughout the season. So, what does Neal have to say regarding TOTW 1?

There are a couple of players to look out for. Jeremy Doku is one, who received big upgrades in areas such as Agility, Balance, Finishing, and Physicality. Stick a Finisher chemistry style on him and you have a very good card that can play anywhere on either wing.

Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is the other pick of the bunch. Once again, his additional positions mean he can play on either flank, which will be great for squad building. As the Featured TOTW player he gained a massive upgrade all-round, making him very desirable early on. He has very good crossing, so if you like putting balls into the box he could be your man. However, he does lack a bit on the Stamina side.

It’s pretty early on so not many people will be able to afford to buy any TOTW items from the transfer market. Neal wouldn’t suggest anyone buys these cards yet. You may see it as an investment but you could lose coins. It would be better to buy a normal gold card and spend the rest of your coins upgrading your squad, rather than to spend a minimum of 10k on an IF.
