The F1 23 driver ratings are continually updated throughout the course of the season. Max Verstappen was unsurprisingly top of the pile upon the release of the game, and he has stayed there ever since, even increasing his advantage at the top in the latest update.

Fortunes have not been the same for his Red Bull teammate though. Sergio Perez has endured a tricky period on the track, and this has been reflected in his F1 23 driver rating. Perez did bounce back in Hungary though, despite Hungaroring being one of the hardest F1 23 tracks.

F1 23 Driver Ratings

The F1 23 driver ratings are made up of four attributes. The four attributes included are experience, racecraft, awareness, and pace. Max Verstappen sits at the top of the drivers ratings in this year’s game with a 95 OVR in the latest update.

Verstappen’s 96 racecraft and 97 pace put him clear at the top of both categories. His 84 experience is fairly self-explanatory, and we think George Russell may think his 85 awareness is a little high after the incident in Baku earlier in the season!

Lewis Hamilton sits joint-second. It is something of a surprise to see him share 92 OVR with Fernando Alonso. While Alonso has enjoyed a blistering start to life at Aston Martin, his two championships can’t compete with the seven his former teammate has won. Regardless, the pair are the two most experienced drivers on the grid, and Alonso’s 92 pace makes him the second quickest alongside Lando Norris.

Following Hamilton and Alonso are three drivers with an 89 OVR. Ferrari pari Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc are no strangers to competing at the front, but Lando Norris was a surprise to see earlier in the year. There is no doubting Norris’ talent, but with no race wins to his name in Formula One, it is a shock to see him rated above the likes of Sergio Perez (OVR 88) and George Russell (OVR 88).

Rookie drivers Logan Sargeant and Nyck de Vries find themselves down the bottom end of the table. Both drivers are low on experience and lack pace, partly due to their cars. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has stepped ahead of the other rookies this season and his driver rating now sits at 76.

Ratings breakdown

The F1 23 ratings are broken down into four categories, and EA Sports compiled and analysed real-life results from the 2023 season up to the Miami Grand Prix.

  • Experience (EXP) is based on the number of race starts a driver has over the course of their career.
  • Racecraft (RAC) is a driver’s ability to work their way through the pack and finish in a higher position than where they started
  • Awareness (AWA) means less time spent in the Steward’s room. Real-world punishments will impact the score in this category
  • Pace (PAC) is judged on who gets closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times. A driver beating their teammate is also taken into consideration
