One thing that is changing with the latest Counter Strike is how CS2 Ranks work. For those who have played CS:GO in the past, then you’re familiar with the different ranks, but those are being done away with in CS2 in a way. So, we’re going to look at how this new system works.

Int he meantime, check out our other CS2 guides, such as our CS2 maps guide to see what maps are in the game. Also check out our best CPU for CS2 and best Laptop for CS2 guides for the best specs for your PC.

CS2 ranks as CS:GO ranks

If you’ve just started up on CS2 and you’re interested in the Premier mode first introduced late in CS:GO’s life-span, you’re probably a little set aback by the sudden changes in ranks. Well, we’ve gone ahead and matched them up as well as we can – and here they are.

In CS2 Premier, you have a rating between 0-35,000 with the larger the number equivocating to a higher rank.

CS2 RatingCS:GO Ranking equivalent
0 – 1,999S1 – Silver Elite Master
2,000 – 5,999Gold Nova 1 – Gold Nova Master
6,000 – 8,999Master Guardian 1 – Master Guardian Elite
9,000 – 12,999Distinguished Master Guardian – Legendary Eagle Master
13,000 – 14,999Supreme Master First Class
15,000 +Global Elite

The shift from a numerical rating away from CS:GO’s title system has sort of taken the wind out of the status of your CS rank now, however the reality is that while they’re not as cool, they still have as much meaning.

CS2 Ranks explained

Put simply, the ranks that we know and love from CS:GO are going away at least in the way that we expect. The way that CS2 ranks work is that there’s a new competitive mode, Premier mode. In this mode, you’ll gain a rating. In order to get your rating, you’ll need to play 10 ranked competitive matches. After the 10 matches, you’ll get your initial ranking. From here, it’s pretty straight forward. Win games to gain rating, and if you lose games, you lose rating.

This mode has a map ban phase before each map, which gives this whole system a much more competitive feel.

Now, there is a second way to get ranked in CS2. There’s a per map ranking. So, if you’re a Dust II or Train fan, then you can simply pick that map, queue into it, and get a rank. The ranks here are the same as the ones in CS:GO, so if you won’t miss those for too long. This mode is great for newer players who want to take ranked a bit slower and learn maps over time.
