Whatever the reason, there are times when you’ll want to switch up your Black Ops 6 display name. Fortunately, Activision has integrated a feature that allows you to do just that, however, there’s a hard cap based on how many rename tokens you have. You can only change your name once every six months. If that doesn’t put you off, this guide we’ll walk you through how to change your display name in Black Ops 6, both in-game and on the Call of Duty website.

How to change your name in Black Ops 6

To change your display name in Black Ops 6, tap on the Settings cog icon in the main menu. Select the second to last option, Account & Network. Tap the Activision Account box then Change Display Name on the screen that pops up. Enter your new name, then tap Confirm and Restart.

How to change display name on the Call of Duty website

You can also change your display name on the Call of Duty website using a web browser. Navigate to the Call of Duty website then log in into your Activision account. Click on your username in the top right of the screen, then select Basic Info from the drop down menu. Tap the Edit button next to Activision ID and your current display name.

Check your email for the verification code, enter it into the empty field, and tap Confirm. Tap Edit again next to Activision ID, then enter your new display name in the field below. Re-enter your password, save, sand ubmit. Log out of your account for the name to update in the Call of Duty HQ app and, by extension, all the CoD games you have linked to your account, including Black Ops 6 and all its modes.

✓ Keep it PG

Note that Activision has a pretty unforgiving filter that detects profanities and spam content, which can be a tad overzealous when weeding out undesirable names. Err on the side of caution here and choose an appropriate name free of any sketchy words or references.

Rename tokens explained

There’s a cap on how many times you can change your display name on your Activision account. This is dictated by what are called rename tokens. You get one rename token every six months, giving you the opportunity to change your name twice in any given year. You can also only have a maximum of two rename tokens at any time. These tokens are tied to your account rather than a specific game, meaning you can only change your name twice in any given year across all Activision games linked to your account.
