Insight is a new currency in Bloodborne. It can be earned by beating enemies throughout the game, or by finding and using Madman’s knowledge throughout the world.
In Bloodborne, your Insight counter is shown below your number of Blood Echoes (next to the image of an eye). You’ll need to spend one Insight every time you want to ring the Beckoning Bell to invite another player into your game. However, spending an Insight point to ring the bell doesn’t guarantee you’ll find a multiplayer match.
Ringing the Small Resonant Bell doesn’t cost Insight, but will instead offer your services to other people’s games. Ringing the Sinister Resonant Bell looks for a competitive multiplayer match, and also doesn’t cost insight.
You can also use Insight to buy weapons and items from the second Messenger Bath, outside the window where the workshop, Memory Altar and storage box is.
The more Insight you accrue, the bigger impact it will have on the game world. Enemy attack patterns will change and the player will start to ‘see things’, including new enemies appearing in previously empty areas. You’re also more susceptible to ‘Frenzy’, a new effect in Bloodborne which, if inflicted, can cause you to incur high amounts of damage and is only treated with Sedatives.
