How do you change party members in Baldur’s Gate 3?

To change party members in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to head back to camp where all your companions are gathered. Then, you will have to tell your current party members to stay at the camp for the time being. Once they’ve left your group and a slot has opened up, you can talk to a different companion to bring them on your adventure.

This isn’t the only way to bring new allies into the fray. Once you learn where to find Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3, the emaciated figure will give you the option to bring in hirelings. These beings, though not as complex as your main companions, can serve as expendable bodies to bolster your team.

There are a couple of other things to keep in mind when changing party members, too.

  • You can only have up to three party members at any one time, unless you’re using Baldur’s Gate 3 mods.
  • Each companion you’ll meet is of a different class. Unless you’re changing their classes, this means you can easily build a varied and flexible team.
  • Your camp is the only place you can swap one ally for another, but outside of active combat zones, the camp is always accessible.

Now, changing party members isn’t the only activity you can get up to in camp. Once you’ve finished arranging your group to your liking, we suggest talking to your companions and managing your inventory as well while you’re at it since this is the only place where you’ll be able to do so.

How do you remove a character from a party in Baldur’s Gate 3?

To remove a character from a party in Baldur’s Gate 3, strike up a conversation with them and choose the dialogue option that tells them to stay at the camp. Once you confirm that you want them to remain behind, they’ll leave your party until you ask them to return. If you want to go the passive-aggressive route, then you can leave them to die in battle instead after which you can simply refrain from reviving them.
