With the full launch of the game about to swing around. you might be wondering if your Baldur’s Gate 3 saves will carry over from Early Access.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the latest Larian Studios game, following on from Divinity Original Sin 2, and reignites the Baldur’s Gate IP. It’s a table-top Dungeons and Dragons game, incorporating action RPG elements into the gameplay. It released as Early Access in late 2020, though this was more of a technical playtest allowing players to experience each different class available, at the same time as experimenting with gameplay mechanics and the like. However, it didn’t launch with a full plot and all of the quests and adventures.

Now that the actual launch is virtually upon us – you’d be right in wondering if your save data is going to carry over from Early Access to the full game.

Your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files will not carry over from Early Access to the full game.

You can make a back-up of them by heading over the Baldur’s Gate 3 save file location and attempting to restore them at a later date, though for now it’s unlikely that this is going to be possible. It’s likely that many players have grown attached to the their characters in BG3, and while it might be disheartening to see them disappear, it also invites the potential for new characters and stories to be crafted.
