Yasuke’s bow is a mighty weapon that excels at long distance combat, and is pretty handy up close as well, especially when paired with abilities like Clear Mind and Staggering Blast. The bow even holds its own in situations where stealth is required, especially compared to the teppo gun, which is loud and draws enemy attention. It’s the perfect partner to melee weapons like the long katana and naginata that Yasuke can also wield.
You’re not constrained to standard arrows either with a range of alternatives called Special Arrows on offer, including silent arrows for a stealthy form of airborne death and poison arrows, which cause poison affliction build up over time when they lodge into enemy flesh. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to change arrows in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How to swap arrow types in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Before anything, make sure you have a bow equipped in either your primary or secondary slot and that you have it selected in the HUD in the bottom left of the screen. To swap arrows, hold down R2 on PS5, left trigger on Xbox, or the left mouse button on PC as if you were aiming. You’ll then see the HUD in the bottom change, showing all available arrow types. From there, use the d-pad on PS5 and Xbox or the 1, 2, and 3 keys on PC to swap to the desired arrow type.
In the HUD, you’ll also get a numbered counter next to each arrow type signalling how many of each you have in your inventory. You can’t re-arrange the order in which they appear on the HUD unfortunately, but as there are only four arrow types and four slots, this shouldn’t be an issue.
You can replenish arrows from arrow quiver baskets in guarded areas like castles, which tend to pop up on balconies and ramparts. Otherwise, for more exotic arrow types, you’ll need to buy them from Gear Vendors typically found in major settlements like Sakai, Osaka, and Kyoto. The standard allocation is a maximum capacity of 15 for normal arrows and 2 for other types like poison. You can, however, increase this by unlocking the following skills in the Mastery menu:
- Large Quiver I – increase maximum capacity for all arrows. +10 Arrow, +3 Special Arrow.
- Larger Quiver II – increase maximum capacity for all arrows. +10 Arrow, +3 Special Arrow.
- Larger Quiver III – increase maximum capacity for all arrows. +10 Arrow, +3 Special Arrow.
If you unlock all three of these skills, you can haul around 45 normal arrows and 11 of each type of Special Arrow for a total of 88 arrows.
