Previously, Nvidia was using Samsung’s 8nm process node. As a result, the RTX 4000-series cards are also more power-efficient than their predecessors. Architecture-wise, Ada Lovelace takes the win with its DLSS. The upscaled resolution and performance jump using DLSS is on another level compared to RDNA 3.

Going over the specifications, the RX 7800 XT comes out on top in pretty much every way. First up, the card comes with 768 more cores, and yes, its clock speeds are slightly lower than the RTX 4060, but the VRAM is a completely different story. The RX 7800 XT offers twice the memory of the RTX 4060. That’s a significant advantage. Plus, this 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM runs at a 624 GB/s bandwidth, which is a +352 GB/s increase. 

The only way the RTX 4060 comes out on top is with its power consumption, which is just 115 W. In comparison, the RX 7800 XT is rated for 263 W, that’s 148 W more. Make sure you have plenty of airflow in your chassis and a good power supply if you go for the RX 7800 XT.

If you’re choosing between the RX 7800 XT and the RTX 4060, then you will want to know which one of the two will give you higher FPS in your favourite games. The RX 7800 XT gives competitive gaming performance at 1440p. It can also offer rock-solid 4K gaming because of its high VRAM. 

On the other hand, the RTX 4060 is best for 1080p gaming. You can also enjoy 1440p with it, but that’ll include turning on DLSS. Of course, 4K is basically off the table with this card. Since the RTX 4060 has been out for some time, we know the card will give you around 100 FPS on average at 1080p. Similarly, 1440p with no DLSS means you cannot play FPS games, just story mode. 

Overall, if you want a 1440p card, then RX 7800 XT is the best option. The card has enough raw performance that it will never disappoint you in any AAA title. Meanwhile, the RTX 4060 remains a solid option for 1080p gaming, though you may be let down a little by the VRAM as games grow more demanding.

The RX 7800 XT comes with a $500 MSRP. As such, its AIB variants will also cost you pretty much the same, with high-end models going above $500. While the pricing is steep, if you factor in the excellent performance, the card actually stands to offer good value for money.

The RTX 4060 is a different story. The card has a $300 MSRP, with variants ranging from $290 to $330. That’s a big difference in pricing that makes the RTX 4060 very tempting.

If you only consider the pricing, the RTX 4060 is a clear winner. With a $200 lower price, you can save some big bucks by going with this card.

All in all, the final decision comes out to be about what you expect from the card. If budget is not your primary concern and you want high-end 1440p gaming as well as a great 4K experience, then the RX 7800 XT is an excellent choice. However, if you are on a tight budget and want just 1080p to 1440p gaming, then RTX 4060 is a great deal.
