Shotguns usually finish off any enemy with just one hit, as long as the guy is not more than a few meters away. The Expedite 12 is the only shotgun currently available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and players will no doubt be wondering how it performs.

The Expedite 12 bears similarities to the Model 680 shotgun from 2019’s Modern Warfare. The pump-action shotgun excels in close-quarters combat thanks to its high damage output but a high damage drop-off means it’s hard to make any kind of impact at longer distances. This weapon can come in handy when you’re entering blind corners. Besides, no one can survive a hit or two from this weapon at close range. That happens to be a major strength and a major weakness at the same time. Shotguns aren’t known to be effective over long distances, so you will have to pair this up with either an assault rifle or a sniper rifle.

Unlike other unique weapons in their categories – like the Signal 50 – that have to be unlocked, the Expedite 12 is available for use right away. This grants an overwhelmingly powerful close-range tool to anyone willing to put the Expedite 12 in their loadout. The Expedite is not recommended as a primary weapon, but it is a good choice for anyone looking for a good secondary weapon for close combat.

Overview

The Expedite 12 is a fairly accessible shotgun. Its range is fair, and its semi-automatic capability makes it quite forgiving. Regardless of the user’s experience level, however, ammo management is extremely important, seeing how the Expedite 12’s shell capacity is so small. The user needs to ensure they are topped up more often than not, as they will be reloading constantly. In COD, though, it’s a bit more complicated. We typically recommend that if you do run a shotgun, you do so as your secondary weapon. To keep your K/D positive, use your shotgun on maps where it will be in close quarters. Any ample, open space represents a considerable danger to you. If someone spots you, it’s game over.

Design

The design of the Expedite 12 is based on the real-life Benelli M4 Super 90. The Benelli M4 is a semi-automatic shotgun produced by Italian firearm manufacturer Benelli Armi SpA and is the last of the “Benelli Super 90” series of semi-automatic shotguns. The M4 uses a proprietary action design called the “auto-regulating gas-operated” (ARGO) system, which was created specifically for the weapon. The weapon was designed in 1998 and was adopted by the armed forces of Italy, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

How To Unlock The Expedite 12 In Modern Warfare 2

You can unlock guns in the Modern Warfare 2 beta by equipping various firearms from the Loadout menu and leveling them up. In Modern Warfare 2’s Gunsmith 2.0. Modern Warfare 2 Beta currently only features one shotgun in the weapon class and is locked at base progression. It is only usable in the secondary slot.

Expedite 12 Stats

The Expedite 12 is one of Modern Warfare 2’s best options for indoor and up-close engagements, capable of dispatching opponents in a single shot. And if that single shot doesn’t get the job done, the Expedite 12’s decent clip size and semi-auto fire ensure that a follow-up isn’t far behind.

The Expedite 12 outstrips almost every other tool when getting close to opponents. Headshots are irrelevant if you’re right on top of the enemy. The Expedite can do lethal damage all by itself.

Weakness

While its strengths are numerous, this weapon also comes with some necessary drawbacks for balance. The Expedite 12 suffers from some of the worst Recoil Control in Modern Warfare 2. You’ll need to make your first shot count when firing the Expedite, as getting the second exactly where you need to go, and quickly besides, is a tougher proposition than with most other guns.

These have promoted a playstyle that greatly favors camping rather than moving around the map. If you can find a tight area to camp in that benefits the Expedite 12’s short range, it’ll be the perfect weapon. However, in wider areas that offer a longer line of sight on enemies, you’ll want something with more range to land hits from a distance.

Fire Rate

The Expedite 12’s fire rate is good for a shotgun. It is semi-automatic, with a firecap of 300 RPM. The user must wait a few milliseconds between each shot. The Expedite 12 actually has the slowest fire rate of any semi-automatic or fully automatic shotgun.

Accuracy

The Expedite 12’s accuracy is standard for a shotgun. The Expedite 12 has heavy recoil, but considering that the Expedite 12 is useless outside of the close range, the recoil won’t be much of an issue.

The shotgun can enable users to easily take out enemy operators at blank range without ever needing to focus on accuracy.

Damage

The damage is perhaps the Expedite 12’s strongest attribute, as it gives the Expedite 12 a chance to get a one-shot kill at any range at which the enemy can be hit. Ideally, the Expedite 12 works best in close-quarters combat where the stakes are high. But the reward is exceptionally high with lowered risks when carrying the Expedite 12 due to its high damage output. You can expect to one-shot players when getting up close and personal and on the move with the gun around tight corners and compact spaces whether it be buildings or apartments in Ground War mode.

Mobility

This weapon category offers a high level of mobility and is by far the easiest weapon to spray. The Expedite 12’s shot spread does not get tighter when aiming down the sight, and it actually gets wider when aiming. The user shouldn’t be strafing anyway, seeing how aiming down the sight offers no relevant advantage to the Expedite 12. Players can quickly burst through buildings, tight spaces, and corridors with the Expedite 12 shotgun, allowing free reign and absolute control of tighter sections of the map in the various multiplayer map offerings of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Recoil

The Expedite 12 does have heavy recoil per shot, but since it fires slowly, it’s being used at close range, and it has a center speed of 1000, recoil should rarely be an issue. The bullet spread paired with the high damage output at close range allows users to rarely be concerned about the Expedite 12’s recoil.

Range

The Expedite 12 works optimally in close-range firefights enabling enhanced CQB gunplay. But don’t expect to use the Expedite 12 in medium to long-range fire-fights considering you’ll rarely get any shots in. And ideally, avoid any encounters with long-range weapon users because that’s a fight you’ll never hope to win anytime soon with a close-range weapon such as the Expedite 12.

Close range

Shotguns offer a one-shot kill, especially at a really close range, which allows them to excel in tight and compact situations.

Long range

We would advise you not to try to mow down opponents at long range with this shotgun. It is worthless to use if your enemy is a few metres away; the spray won’t cause any lethal damage.

Weapons Platform

Weapons Platforms allow users to streamline progression and attachment unlocking in a user-friendly manner. But Expedite 12 is not part of any weapon platform for Modern Warfare 2 currently.

Attachments

If you want to run a shotgun as your main weapon, we’d be more than happy to advise you. Just one catch: the Modern Warfare 2 beta wouldn’t let us stick any attachments on our Expedite 12. They are now counting the days till the official release so they can get their hands on all attachment categories and build the best loadout suited to them. So we’ll have to do some guesswork.

If Warzone is any indicator, there aren’t many attachments to run with. Optics are optional because you will be as close as 5-10 meters while fighting. The main ones to focus on are muzzle and magazine attachments. Choose a muzzle that will tighten your shotgun spread for extra punch, and equip it with a magazine that’ll allow you to load more shells.

Perk To Equip With Expedite 12

  • Scavenger
  • Overkill

Alternatives

  • Ghost
  • Quick Fix
  • Hardline
  • Scavenger

While the Expedite 12’s clip size isn’t a detriment to the weapon, you can quickly burn through your reserve ammunition in longer matches. The Scavenger will ensure that you are always stocked up, and you’ll hardly have a shortage of dead enemies to pillage when wielding this weapon.

Overkill

The Expedite is more heavily specialized for close quarters than most other weapons in Modern Warfare 2, and you really don’t want to be relying on a pistol as your only effective long-range tool. This perk dramatically expands your options, allowing you to equip a secondary primary weapon to cover for the Expedite when required.

Alternative Weapons

The Expedite 12 is the only shotgun available in the Modern Warfare 2 beta. So this makes us unable to suggest any alternative for Expedite 12. This is what players experienced in the Open Beta.
