Chemistry in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team has been completely overhauled. We have known for a while that it will be changing, but now the beta has been released for FIFA 23, we finally have a better understanding of how chemistry will work.

How will Chemistry work in Ultimate Team?

Chemistry as it appears on EA’s website

Going forward all cards will play at base stats, regardless of where you play them, in order to impact chemistry they must be played in their actual position. If they are played out of position it will no longer negatively impact your squad, but they won’t get any boosts.

Loyalty bonuses have also been removed, although a manager does still give a boost to chemistry, like in previous games.

Lines are gone, so your team no longer looks like a mad spider’s web, in FIFA 23 players do not need to be next to each other in order to link. As long as they’re in the same squad they will link if they have players to link with.

Now chemistry is out of 33, not 100. Players’ individual chemistry is now out of 3 stars. How this works is if you have 3 players from the same league or nation it will boost their chemistry, the same club will boost it even more, regardless of if they’re next to each other on pitch.

How will Position Modifiers work?

Position changes have also changed. Now there is one universal item that can change a player’s position – you can choose which position they should play from a predetermined list unique to each player.

For example Cucurella at Chelsea can play in any position on the left side of the pitch, whereas a player like Sadio Mane can play either left-wing, left midfield or centre forward. These are now more accurate with where the player actually plays in real life.

It is still unknown just how Heroes and Icons will work in this new system, but the possibilities for squad building in FIFA 23 look even better than before.

There is no doubt this will not just change how the game is played, but also have huge implications on the market in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team.
