Distributors will allegedly not be gracing GTA 6 with a physical edition upon its highly anticipated launch to prevent the game from leaking.
Polish outlet PPE.pl reported that its source, who handles physical game sales in Europe, claims that there are no plans for a physical edition of the game, at least at the time of its release.
According to the report, GTA 6 will arrive on consoles first, with a physical version set to release afterwards. The same report suggests that this is a measure taken to avoid story and gameplay leaks.
A machine-translated quote from PPE.pl’s source reads as follows:
“We’re hearing more and more that the physical version won’t be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks. We’re getting conflicting reports: some say the physical version will arrive three to four weeks after the digital release, while others say it won’t happen until early 2027. More information will be available in mid-February.”
Given that GTA 5 is one of the best-selling games of all time, a physical release for its sequel seems inevitable.
If these unconfirmed reports turn out to be true, however, then Rockstar is taking significant measures to stop its highly anticipated open-world crime adventure from leaking ahead of its planned November 19 release date.
Defensive stance

Digital-only releases are becoming far more prevalent in the industry, but rarely for the purpose of avoiding leaks. More often than not, a delay or absence of physical releases is due to a lack of resources in a game industry that is ever leaning towards digital marketplaces.
There are countless cases where players have acquired physical copies of games through retailers who receive shipments before release. If these reports are true, then Rockstar is likely opting for a delayed physical release to prevent physical copies from circulating early.
GTA 6 in particular has already been the subject of numerous leaks. In September 2022, a high-profile data leak saw roughly an hour of GTA 6 development footage published online. In December 2023, Rockstar Games released the GTA 6 announcement trailer a day early, following another leak that saw clips surfacing online.
While the report remains unconfirmed, it’s easy to believe that Rockstar would take as many precautions as they can to protect the integrity of its most anticipated game release.
This comes amid union-busting allegations against Rockstar after the studio fired between 30 and 40 employees on October 30, 2025. Given that the case is still in UK courts, it remains unclear if the allegations will impact the release of Rockstars’ Blockbuster title (alongside the potential lack of a physical version).
