It’s been thirteen years since the release of GTA 5, and just as long since players have been able to indulge in a single-player story from Rockstar Games’ open-world crime sandbox. Since then, we’ve had access to the microtransaction-ridden GTA Online and the western crime drama Red Dead Redemption 2, but none of that unique strain of GTA’s satirical drama.
After repeated delays, GTA 6 is expected to finally arrive in 2026. However, in the run-up to its release, Rockstar Games has found itself in controversy surrounding the firing of 34 employees. Until we get there, here’s everything you need to know about GTA 6.
- Anticipation is high for the GTA 6 release date of November 19, 2026, even though there’s still no sign of pre-orders.
- In GTA 6, you’ll play as crime-doing couple Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.
- The GTA 6 map will take place in Leonida, a fake Florida that is home to the fan-favourite Vice City.
- GTA 6 gameplay will almost certainly revolve around the familiar mixture of high-speed chases, gunfights, and copious opportunities to commit crimes that fans have come to love.
- The story looks like yet another GTA 6 rags-to-riches story, but rendered in far more detail.
GTA 6 release date

The GTA 6 release date is currently set for November 19, 2026, to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 was originally to be released in late 2025 before being delayed to May 2026, and now finally to November 2026. It isn’t likely that Rockstar Games will be announcing another delay.
GTA 6 is also expected to come to PC after the console release, though there are currently no confirmed dates. GTA 5 received its PC release nearly two years after its initial release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
I would expect a more prompt release on PC for GTA 6, as GTA 5 also needed to be ported to the PS4 and Xbox One consoles a year after its release.
GTA 6 trailer
Since its announcement, we have only received two GTA 6 trailers. The first teaser trailer released back in December 2023 focused on GTA 6’s aesthetic. It showed off some of the new locations of GTA 6. We see various parts of Leonida, the fictional state based upon real-world Florida, including the swamps, backwaters, and our return to a modern Vice City.
The first GTA 6 trailer also showcased the game’s approach to a new era of social media, a reality dominated by TikTok and YouTube rather than the old dominant mediums of TV and Facebook.
In the background of this crime story, we should expect to see if GTA can stay relevant, or will find itself past its prime in an era where culture changes faster than satire.
The second GTA 6 trailer concerns itself far more with teasing the story, the characters, and our new protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Their relationship is central to GTA 6. With Lucia right out of prison, it looks like the couple will move straight back into a Bonnie and Clyde life of crime.
It leans into everything you’d expect for a GTA 6 trailer that’s still only meant to tease. Shots of key characters, little moments from across the GTA 6 map, and what mostly seems to be extracts from cutscenes with no real gameplay.
Our protagonists aren’t high-flyers like Michael from GTA 5, but on that lower rung; we’ll almost certainly see a rags-to-riches story.
GTA 6 map

The GTA 6 map returns to the state of Leonida, last seen in GTA Vice City, though vastly expanded. Previously, we’ve not seen any further than the city limits, but the GTA 6 map wants to take us on a much bigger tour of not-Florida.
There’s no official map, though there has been a fan-made effort to try to predict the GTA 6 map based upon the confirmed locations, stretching from the far north Mount Kalaga down to the waters of the Leonida Keys.
Compared to the GTA 5 map, Leonida feels like it will potentially have more points of interest. Outside of Los Santos, the state of San Andreas in GTA 5 felt quite empty. Hopefully, Rockstar Games will have learned from their time on Red Dead Redemption 2 and offer more interesting, smaller locations.
GTA 6 price predictions

There is currently no confirmed GTA 6 price. Considering the expected size, scope, and development cost of GTA 6, it may be released for $80 (£67) like Mario Kart World, more than the standard $70 (£60).
A former Rockstar executive has said that he doesn’t expect GTA 6 to hit $100 (£75), especially as they will want to encourage buy-in to get “money on the back-end” through GTA 6 Online microtransactions.
GTA 6 pre-order predictions

There is still no ability to pre-order GTA 6, nor any confirmation on when pre-orders will go live, or what bonuses there will be for pre-ordering.
GTA 5 became available to pre-order on November 5, 2012, ten months before its release on September 17, 2013. If an equivalent timeframe were to be applied to GTA 6, we should expect pre-orders to open in February 2026.
Pre-order bonuses for GTA 5 included various extra goodies like added customisation in GTA Online, stat boosts, and physical gear like a map of Los Santos and a snapback cap. Any GTA 6 pre-order bonuses are likely to be in the same vein, focusing on in-game cosmetic flourishes.
GTA 6 gameplay and story analysis

Following our protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, we know that we will be going into criminal activity shortly after Lucia’s stint in prison. It also looks like Jason operates as a petty criminal to get by.
Jason robs local stores and works collecting money for other people, but his home is little more than a shack, still hardly reaping the wages of sin. Jason and Lucia will work together as a couple for a chance at a better life, showcased by their improving home surroundings.
In-game, you’ll likely be able to switch between them at will, much like the protagonists in GTA 5, though it would certainly be fun if Rockstar Games were able to use what they learned from the missions in GTA Online to allow for a co-op campaign.
The trailers suggest that, otherwise, the expected gameplay and story are iterations of the Grand Theft Auto formula. High-speed chases, robberies, and shootouts, with plenty of obvious key characters who would act as mission hubs.
At the moment, it doesn’t look like we should be expecting revolutions but refinement, into the ultimate crime sandbox, though perhaps one with a little more heart.
FAQs
GTA 6 will have far more realistic graphics than its predecessors, and Rockstar Games has made significant leaps in technology since GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. However, the gameplay is unlikely to get more realistic without losing a lot of the fun.
There’s no confirmation for how big GTA 6 will be. Red Dead Redemption 2 is 150GB and originally released on the last generation of consoles, so GTA 6 will likely be much more memory-intensive.
GTA 6 has taken so long to release, partially because it is a huge undertaking by Rockstar Games. The studio also worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 between GTA 5 and GTA 6, adding to the wait.
Depending on how much you buy at once, one dollar can be worth between 50,000 and 115,000 GTA$. For context, a mansion in GTA Online can cost upwards of 11,500,000 GTA$.
