Fortnite is bringing back one of the most controversial and iconic weapons in the game’s history. After a seven-year absence, the legendary Infinity Blade is officially returning to Battle Royale this week. The sword that once broke the game is back, and players are both excited and terrified.
The Mythic sword is set to return on Thursday, December 11, as part of the OG Season 7 update. The melee weapon was removed on December 14, 2018, making it one of the longest-vaulted weapons ever. However, its return is right around the corner.
Fortnite will bring back the Infinity Blade with the next OG Season
With Fortnite’s OG mode returning this week, Epic Games has a special surprise. Season 7 will bring back the Infinity Blade, one of the most powerful weapons in the game’s history. The weapon first appeared in Chapter 1 – Season 7, but was deemed too powerful, which is why Epic removed it after a few days.
“We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game. The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items. Thanks for calling us out on this!” Epic tweeted back in 2018.

This time, the blade is returning alongside a massive content drop for Fortnite OG. The update also brings back classic locations like Polar Peak, Happy Hamlet, and Frosty Flights, perfectly setting the stage for the winter-themed weapon and the Winterfest event.
The update isn’t just about the sword, though. It also reintroduces a classic loot pool from Season 7, including the Suppressed Sniper Rifle, Dual Pistols, and Balloons. On top of this, the X-4 Stormwing plane returns to the game, which is why we expect epic battles over the island.
It will be interesting to see if Epic Games has balanced the Infinity Blade for its return. Will it still be the game-breaking item that it was seven years ago, or has the game developer found a way to tone it down and make it balanced? We’re just a few days away from finding out.
