The Finals is preparing something. What Embark is preparing has vaguely been hyped as ‘very cool,’ and fans believe it is a new game mode teased in the intro added in update 2.4.0. While nothing is currently confirmed, it now seems even more likely that The Finals is getting a new mode and that it includes elimination judging by a dev’s message about a playtest.
In explaining why there was no update 2.6.0 this week, Embark said it’s because they are working on a significant update that will deliver ‘Something very cool’. As shown by the update 2.5.1 patch notes, Embark still rotated the store adding the best weapon skin to the game with fans continuing to wait for the best goth girl skin to finally drop someday in the future.
While fans are happy with the arrival of the big spoon, most fans are intrigued by what’s coming in the next proper update. Everyone believes it is a new game mode and that belief has been further reinforced by details of a playtest.
The Finals new game mode has elimination
As noticed and shared by Reddit user MasterFish19 on Reddit, The Finals developer has teased the arrival of a new game mode. On the game’s official Discord, Embark Rob posted the following message:
‘We also had a great playtest earlier today, I think Dusty is struggling a bit with the mode mode TBH… she still didn’t manage to eliminate me, haha…!’
The current game modes in The Finals are as follows:
- Cashout:
- Teams compete to collect the most cash within an 8-minute time limit.
- Bank It:
- Four teams of three compete to bank coins scattered throughout the arena in this casual-friendly, combat-focused game mode.
- Powershift:
- A casual 5v5 game mode where two teams compete to escort a platform through the arena.
There is also limited-time modes that come and go such as the recent Easter festivity.

Previously, fans thought that the new game mode could be something like ‘Rush mode from Battlefield,’ meanwhile, others suggested it could be a ‘Search and Destroy hack style objective mode’. Search and Destroy was the most popular theory amongst the community, but there were also guesses it could be similar to Hardpoint from MW3 or it could be something like Capture the Vault.
Now the tease of elimination has fans thinking differently. One fan in the Reddit replies to the Embark Discord post believes it ‘screams Prop Hunt’. Another fan has guessed ‘maybe it’s some sort of VIP mode, where you kill a “king” and afterwards become one yourself’.
Unfortunately, we won’t know what the new mode is until it drops. Again, there’s still no confirmation that a new game mode is officially coming with the next proper update. As for when 2.6.0 come out, the dev has said ‘in a week or two’ which implies either May 1st or May 8th.
