When it comes to Helldivers 2, the game itself hasn’t been the primary focus of the community in recent days. Sony came under fire from the community following an announcement that all PC players would need to connect a PSN account to keep playing. Thankfully, the publisher reverted this decision much to the delight of players.

But now it is time to focus on the game again as Arrowhead Game Studio has recently nerfed the Eruptor and much of the community isn’t happy about the changes that have been made. And with the new Polar Patriots Warbond launching on May 9th, players aren’t enthusiastic about it because they feel any weapon that will be released will be nerfed before long.

U/Grune_Holle took to Reddit to discuss the state of nerfing in Helldivers 2, as most recent updates have seen some popular weapons have their viabilities reduced. This has led to the Reddit user to dread “new updates instead of being excited.”

Other users took to the comments to share their own thoughts, with many echoing this sentiment such as U/ConnorI who said: “I’ve been dreading their updates after the rail gun/breaker nerf with all the nonsense they said trying to justify it.”

U/BlackViperMWG and U/SirHomoLiberus shared similar opinions, with BlackViperMWG saying “Their “balancing” is weird and every patch just nerfs something good,” while SirHomoLiberus gave their thoughts saying “Their balance decisions are atrocious, it feels like the game gets worse with every patch + the crashes are still happening which is mind blowing at this point.”

U/meatcousins described the current situation with the Eruptor nerf accurately saying “We fixed that exploit, your gun was shooting these hard metal things at the enemy. that’s too lethal and too much of an edge for players.”

U/kamitachiraym wrapped things up with a great point that Helldivers 2 sees more balancing changes than many PVP games saying “Helldivers 2 is a PvE game. Yet it’s being balanced more frequently than League of Legends.”

With all of the constant adjustments to weapons, I do agree with this post in that it becomes difficult to be excited about any new weapon that gets added to the game as it will likely be nerfed within a few weeks. And, being a PVE game, unless a weapon is completely broken there isn’t much of a need to constantly nerf weapons as. Helldivers 2 is already an incredibly difficult game at higher levels, so this does negate much of the need to nerf weapons.

As there has been a lot of community backlash surrounding nerfs in recent weeks, it will be interesting to see whether Arrowhead Game Studios changes its approach and either leaves weapons as is or releases weapons in a weaker state in future Warbonds. This would give them the option to buff instead as this would likely be met with a more enthusiastic response from the community.

But, regardless of the nerfs, Super Earth can’t afford to take its eye off the ball as the Terminids are becoming stronger than ever before after having become resistant to Termicide. After spending the past month focused on the Automatons, it is a welcomed change to shift our attention to the Terminids, especially as The Illuminate could make their presence known at any moment.
