For anyone wondering what Google Keep is, don’t worry. You’ve come to the right place.
There are many note-taking apps out there. Microsoft OneNote, Apple Notes, and Notion are all note-taking apps that are well established with many users. That being said, even with many options out there, each app is clearly delineated by key quirks individual to themselves. OneNote and Apple Notes are both built into and free for their respective systems. Meanwhile, Notion allows for easy collaboration. So, what is Google Keep?
Let’s have a look at what we found.
What is Google Keep?
Google Keep is a multimedia note-taking app. It allows you to keep track of notes, lists, photos, and even audio. But, this is not all. Within each of these key areas, the app has integrated multiple key features.
Some of our favourite include, the ability to share and edit notes in real time with other collaborators; the ability to record voice notes and have the app automatically transcribe the information; the ability to grab text from input images; and the compatibility of Google Keep across other Workspace applications. That last is particularly helpful as this includes gmail, Docs and Calendars (although do note that this is only possible with a working internet connection). This is a particularly interesting feature as it also one of the main selling points of the yet-to-be-released Microsoft Copilot.
With all of that possibility, it would be easy for this app to get confusing. However, there is a ‘pin’ option where you can keep hold of specific notes at the top of your Google Keep workspace. Underneath the ‘pinned’ notes, the content is displayed chronologically. Further helping the ease-of-use of this app, you can search for specific notes using text content as a filter.
Finally, you can turn your notes into reminders using both location-based and/or time-based reminders.
Where can you access Google Keep?
Google Keep can be found here (for web). It is also available in app form for both Android and Apple. It is free to use with your existing Google account. (Note: Google Keep users must have a parent or guardian’s permission to use as the service is connected to your Google account which also contains an age restriction to access as per Google’s Terms of Service.)
With all the quirks and capabilities, Google Keep really does seem like a tool that can be utilised with each person’s specific needs in mind, whether you’re a university student trying to take notes in class, or someone trying to make sure you’ve got all the ingredients at the grocery store.
