As is to be expected when comparing a 70-class and an 80-class GPU, there is a noticeable price difference. The first of the Super series to be released, the RTX 4070 Super, came out with a comparatively low MSRP of $599, making it arguably more affordable than other Nvidia models. When we compared RTX 4070 Super Vs RTX 3090, there was a notable difference between the RTX 3090’s price tag of $1499, making it over twice the cost of the 4070 Super. Meanwhile the RTX 4080 Super is set to release this week at a cost starting at $999.

RTX 4080 Super Vs RTX 4070 Super release date comparison

The RTX 4070 Super was the first of the Super trio to be released, becoming available to buy as of January 17, 2024. The RTX 4070 Ti Super followed on January 24, with the RTX 4080 Super bringing up the rear with a release date of today, January 31. RTX 4080 Super Vs RTX 4070 Super specs comparison

The RTX 4070 Super made an impressive start to the Super series being released this January, with an incredibly low cost and and even lower power consumption of 220W, making it worth the upgrade for those who want to keep electricity bills down or don’t want to run the risk of overheating. The RTX 4080 Super is set to have a power consumption of 320W, so if you’re trying to keep your power usage down, the 4080 Super may not be the right choice for you.

That being said, when we compared RTX 4070 Ti Super Vs RTX 4070 Super, the Ti Super definitely took the lead, so it’s no surprise that the RTX 4080 Super comes out on top when the raw specs are compared. With 1280 more CUDA cores and and an extra 4GB of GDDR6X VRAM, the RTX 4080 Super is also set to have a faster memory clock speed of 23GBp/s, a 256-bit memory interface and a larger memory bandwidth of 736GB/s; while the RTX 4070 Super has a clock speed of 21GBp/s, memory interface of only 192-bit and a memory bandwidth of just 504GB/s. With their base clock speeds compared, the RTX 4080 Super still wins but by a much smaller margin, with a base frequency of 2296MHz and a boost frequency of 2550MHz while the RTX 4070 Super claims 1980MHz and 2475MHz respectively.

RTX 4080 Super Vs RTX 4070 Super performance comparison

Promised by Nvidia at its Special Address at CES 2024, the RTX 4080 Super is set to run ray traced games at 4K, whilst also being 1.4x faster than the RTX 3080 Ti without frame gen. According to Nvidia’s own performance benchmarks, using DLSS 3 and Ray Tracing, the RTX 4080 Super was shown to be 3.1x faster then the aforementioned 3080 Ti during Alan Wake 2 gameplay, and is set to reach up to 150 fps in 4K Assassin’s Creed Valhalla benchmarks by Mark PC on YouTube. That being said, the RTX 4070 Super holds it own at a 1.5x faster than the RTX 3090 with DLSS 3, and an impressively 3.4x than its predecessor, the RTX 3070, when using DLSS 3 and full Ray Tracing during Alan Wake, according to Nvidia’s performance charts. The 4070 Super comes with an average frame rate of 133 fps at 1440p, and 60 fps at 4K with possibilities of increasing up to 100fps with DLSS 3 support, which is still impressive compared to the RTX 30 series, but is relatively low compared to the results the 4080 Super promises with 4K capabilities.

Should you buy the RTX 4080 Super or the RTX 4070 Super?

If you’re looking to upgrade your GPU so you can run AAA titles with stability at 1080p and 1440p with less power consumption then the RTX 4070 Super is still a solid choice for its more humble $599. Though its specs appear lesser when compared to the RTX 4080 Super, for casual gaming or less demanding use, it is a power efficient, budget friendly GPU that is already available to buy.

But if you’ve got the cash to spend and want 4K graphics for your gameplay, rendering and creative projects, and don’t mind the higher power-consumption and the RTX 4080 Super size and dimensions, then the latter is definitely the best one for you.
