The RTX 4070 release date is finally out after all the the rumours and speculation.

Following on from the 4070 Ti’s launch in January, the graphics card market has been pretty quiet. While the RTX 40-series laptops hit store-shelves, we’ve not really had much else to enjoy. That said, the RTX 4070 is now in the spotlight, and here’s everything we know about the release date.

The good news is we’re hours away from launch, so let’s have a quick look at if there’s any new information about the GPU. For example, we’ve had a look at the VRAM, which has recently been under the spotlight.

RTX 4070 release date speculation

The latest from Nvidia is the confirmation that the RTX 4070 will launch on April 13th, 2023.

Interestingly, this matches speculation we had from hongxing2020 , who previously leaked and predicted the rebranding of the RTX 4080 12GB Edition to the RTX 4070 Ti.

The RTX 4070 release date we speculated was also corroborated by the below pricing leak, which also suggested that reviews might be published on April 12th. From our own experience, reviews for Nvidia products usually head out twenty-four hours before a product launches, and this held true this time around as well.

We’ve already seen some reviews hit the web, while Nvidia have released the full specs list (minus pricing) ahead of the confirmed launch on 13th April.

In the past, the latest leaks by Gigabyte only added fuel to the speculation, as according to Videocardz, the RTX 4070 was expected to launch with 12GB RAM. This is was leaked in a software update to Gigabyte Control Center, which included the following snippet of information:

Support : Default color for GV-N4070AERO OC-12GD/ GV-N4060Gaming OC-8GB products

Not only does this inadvertently signal both the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060, but it also suggests that their release is inbound. This is something to keep an eye on now that the RTX 4070 has been officially confirmed and will be released in a matter of hours.

Latest RTX 4070 rumors

In fact, one of the few things to still be unconfirmed by Nvidia is the pricing. However, there are rumours swirling that it may cost between $749 – $799. If true, the RTX 4070 price could be nearly as expensive as the RTX 4070 Ti, according to sources close to popular YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead.

“Nvidia notified us [AIB] that cards getting reviewed on April 12th can’t cost us more than $749.99. They confirmed there’s a Founders too! Cards getting reviewed on 4/13 or later can cost more, and we have plans for models at least up to $799. There’s still time for Nvidia to adjust down pricing, but for now $749.99 is the plan…”

The preceding quote is from one of Moore’s Law Is Dead’s sources, though it seems their proximity to Nvidia and an unnamed AIB producer prevents naming themselves. Of course, these leaks are to be taken with a pinch of salt, though if they’re to be believed, there are some concerns about the price.

With the RTX 4070 Ti only launching in January, there’s only an alleged $50 price difference between the two. However, with the RTX 3070 launching for $499, the potential surge in price isn’t even that much of a surprise considering the recent state of the graphics card market.

RTX 4070 performance speculation

As much as the price, the RTX 4070 specs deserve as much attention. Nvidia confirmed today that the 4070 will feature 5888 CUDA cores, which is 1792 less than the 4070 Ti.

Previous rumours from Dexerto, who reported the following specs for the RTX 4070 were also proven pretty true:

  • CUDA Cores: 5888
  • Memory: 12GB GDDR6X
  • Boost clock: 2.4GHz

It seems their leaks are sourced from popular leaker Kopite7kimi, who has previously predicted the RTX 4080 12GB becoming the 4070 Ti.

We can now confirm that the 4070 will have a Boost Clock of 2.48GHz, Base Clock of 1.92 GHz, a 12 GB GDDR6X memory, and a 192-bit Memory Interface Width.

As a cut-down chip, it seems unlikely that you’ll need to upgrade your PSU. While we’ve covered the kind of PSU you might need for the RTX 4070 Ti, it seems that you’ll be fine with a 750W power supply as the confirmed Required System Poewr (W) has been set at 650W by Nvidia.

Make sure to watch this space as more information comes out about the RTX 4070!
