We’re comparing the RTX 4060 Ti vs 4070. Let’s have a look a how they could compare.

We already have the RTX 4060 Ti specs with the Founders Edition already appearing on Best Buy. Now that the release date has passed, it’s a good idea to get clued up about the performance of this new Lovelace card. This means that you can be confident of whether or not you want to go for it.

Comparing a card to a similar one is a great way to get a sense of its performance. The RTX 4070 is an apt place to start, as the most recent currently available 40-series GPU, and one likely to be directly next to the 4060 Ti in terms of performance.

RTX 4060 Ti vs 4070 – specs comparison

You’ll notice there are two variants of the RTX 4060 Ti listed, one with 8GB of VRAM and one with 16GB. The 8GB version has now dropped, and the 16GB version will be coming later. We’ve seen Nvidia do this with previous releases of graphics cards such as the RTX 3060.

This means the RTX 4070’s VRAM count will sit somewhere between these two at 12GB. It also got a superior 192-bit memory bus clearing the way for its larger memory bandwidth. You can think of bandwidth as the size of the pipes through which graphic information flows, the larger the bandwidth the more data can travel at any given moment.

The clock speed refers to how many computing cycles are completed per second. As you can see this is one area where the RTX 4060 Ti outperforms the 4070. The lower core count may mean a cycle achieves less in the RTX 4060 Ti but as there are more cycles completed, the computing power remains competitive.

RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 4070 – architecture

Architecture is the scaffolding that supports the physical components of a GPU, dictating the flow of information and how the different parts interact. As such it has an outsized influence on performance. For example, when comparing the RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 3070 Ti, we saw that despite the former’s weaker specs, performance was still comparatively close thanks to its more advanced architecture.

When comparing the RTX 4060 Ti to the RTX 4070, architecture is less vital. As both are part of the RTX 40-series of graphics cards both use the Lovelace GPU architecture. This means there are the incredible performance-boosting qualities of DLSS 3, as well as 3rd generation ray tracing cores, making 40-series cards some of the best GPUs for ray tracing out there.

RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 4070 – performance

Deepdiving into physical components and GPU architecture is useful but fundamentally a means to understand the performance of a specific GPU.

Based on the specs and recent benchmarks, the RTX 4060 Ti excels at 1080p and 1440p gaming, performing above average with ray tracing enabled, and boasting impressive frame rates with DLSS 3 enabled. The 4K performance is less impressive, though it will be able to generate playable frame rates.

For the RTX 4070 we know it is among the best GPUs for 1440p. With both these cards having DLSS 3 enabled will make a huge difference. To give you a sense of this feature’s power you can look at the RTX 4070 vs RTX 3080. With DLSS enabled the RTX 4070 actually keeps up with the 3080, despite the latter’s far superior specs

RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 4070 – price

The RTX 4060 Ti is the cheapest RTX 40-series GPU available, coming in at $399 for the 8GB version and $499 for the 16GB. This will surely make it a tempting offer for many. It’s worth noting that the Founders Edition will only be available for the 8GB model too, so the more budget conscious gamers should bare this in mind when researching their graphics card.

When it first came out, the RTX 4070 too was the cheapest way to get Lovelace architecture. It dropped with an MSRP of $600. As this release was pretty recent we haven’t really seen too much fluctuation in this, with some of the best RTX 4070 graphics cards actually going for a bit more, to reflect their improved specs.

RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 4070 – final word

Comparing the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 comes down to how you want to balance price and performance.

The RTX 4070 boasts superior performance in return for what is the higher MSRP. The RTX 4060 Ti, meanwhile, will be geared towards more budget-conscious gamers still interested in the performance abilities of Lovelace architecture. Both are high-performance mid-range cards and both offer a great price for performance.
