We’re taking a closer look at the newly announced Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 to see which GPU you should go for.
The 4060 Ti has been released. Well, the 8GB version has been released at least. If you’re hopping to get your mittens on the 16GB variant of the card you’ll have to wait until an unconfirmed date in July.
So, how might it shape up against the RTX 4060? The 4060 has been announced to arrive in July, meaning it will release after the 4060 Ti. The 4060 and 4060 Ti will both release as the best value 40-series graphics cards, coming as direct challengers to some of the best graphics cards to come out of the 30-series. That’s right, we’re talking about the RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti.
If you’re interested, we’ve broken down the key differences between the RTX 4060 Ti and 3060 Ti which is worth checking out before launching into our comparison below. We’ll be breaking down the specs, performance and price of the two Ada Lovelace graphics cards to see which is worth buying in 2023.
RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 – specs comparison
RTX 4060 Ti | RTX 4060 | |
Architecture | Ada Lovelace | Ada (TSMC 4N) |
CUDA Cores | 4,352 | 3,072 |
Base Clock (MHz) | 2,310 | 1,830 |
Boost Clock (MHz) | 2,535 | 2,535 |
Memory | 8/16GB GDDR6X | 8GB GDDR6 |
Memory Bus | 128-bit | 128-bit |
Memory Bandwidth | 288 GB/s | 288 GB/s |
TDP | 160/165W | 200W |
Hopefully, this specs table has given you an idea of just how powerful the RTX 4060 Ti is. One of the most important differences to highlight is the difference between the 8GB VRAM of the 4060 compared to the 16GB GDDR6X VRAM of the Ti model. If you’re looking to upgrade to one of best GPUs for 1440p, the 4060 Ti might just have the edge, though the 4060 still looks decent. That’s on account of its 2,535Mhz boost clock and 128-bit memory bus. Compared to the 3060, the 4060 has made serious gains in this domain, and you’re looking at an all round stronger and more efficient performance than before.
Both GPUs also feature a much juicer L2 cache than before that also improves the memory speed and overall gaming performance. As for the TDP, you’ll notice that the 4060 Ti has a considerably lower TDP, making it the preferred option for those who value energy efficiency in their graphics card. Mind you, 200W is still decent and is considerably more energy efficient than its predecessor. A final major difference is in CUDA cores. The RTX 4060 Ti has 29% more CUDA cores than the RTX 4060 which is actually pretty big.
RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 – architecture
Unlike our comparisons between the RTX 4060 Ti vs 3070 Ti and RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6800 XT, the 4060 and 4060 Ti share the same Ada Lovelace architecture. Let’s go into a little more depth and look at what Ada Lovelace has to offer.
Its main selling points have to be DLSS 3.0. An increasing number of games are now compatible with DLSS, including Diablo 4 though the selection is still limited. Still though, DLSS works a bit like magic in increasing your frame rates without putting too much stress on your CPU. This makes the 4060 or 4060 Ti a great choice, regardless of your CPU generation.

Then there’s the third generation ray tracing cores that render light super realistically in games. AMD doesn’t quite do it like Nvidia, making the 4060 and 4060 Ti strong contenders if you want your games to look amazing.
RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 – performance
If we take Nvidia’s benchmarks at face value, we’re looking at decent improvements compared to the previous generation of graphics cards. However, compared to each other, the differences appear less dramatic.
It’s actually pretty hard to give a definite answer on performance until we’ve tested out these cards ourselves. Judging from what we know about previous generations, the 3060 and 3060 Ti were fairly different in their performances so we can probably expect something similar between the 4060 and 4060 Ti. Though the 4060 and 4060 Ti both share the same Ada Lovelace architecture, they differ quite substantially in power draw, clock speed and CUDA cores which will likely result in a significantly different performance.
RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 – price
For the 8GB model of the RTX 4060 Ti, you’ll be spending around $399. Meanwhile, the 16GB RTX 4060 Ti will cost more at $499. Compared to the RTX 4060 which will only cost $299, there’s up to a $200 price difference between the 4060 Ti 16GB and 4060.
Time will tell if the MSRP will shoot up come the release date, though we highly doubt we’ll see anything like it was in 2020. Heck, even the RTX 4080 is retailing for a little over $1000 on Amazon, which makes us confident that whichever graphics card you end up choosing, you’ll be copping it for a decent price.
RTX 4060 Ti vs 4060 – final word
While the RTX 4060 Ti is now available, there’s still a lot left to learn about Nvidia’s RTX 4060 graphics cards. We’re keen to find out how the difference in specs translates to gaming performane, and whether the newest editions to the 40 series will be worth the upgrade. If the sub $500 price tag holds strong, it’s fair to say that the 4060 and 4060 Ti could both be hugely popular cards in 2023.
